It’s Friday evening, and I’m in the passenger seat in Ollie’s car. We’re speeding up the highway, heading to the party he invited me to.

“You look stunning, princess.” His soothing voice makes me smile. “As always.”

I turn to see the charming smile on his face, and he grabs my hand, cupping it with his.

“Thank you. You don’t look too bad yourself,” I tease, and he chuckles before he focuses his gaze back on the road.

It takes us about half an hour before we reach the destination, and Ollie stops the car engine in front of a vast mansion. I look out through the window, amazed by its size. Don’t get me wrong. I’m used to enormous, luxury mansions as my father takes me with him for some social gatherings. In the society we live in, it’s nothing unusual. But this one takes my breath away. It has an enormous pool in the front and a beautifully maintained garden in the back that I can see just a glimpse of from the car. It’s surrounded by thick but stunning stone fencing and a black gate. The place gives me a dark vibe, reminding me of one of those from the mafia books I’ve read.

“Woah. Where are we?” I ask, stunned.

Ollie only smirks before getting out of the car to follow to the other side of the vehicle. He then opens the door for me and reaches out his hand to help me get out.

“May I?” He smiles, glancing down at me.

“You may,” I smile back, placing my palm on his.

“Wow! A smoke machine!” I call out with surprise as we enter a room with a cloud of smoke floating across the floor and loud music echoing throughout the house. “How 90’s of them!”

Oliver coughs, “Laying it on a little thick, huh?”

“How innocent!” I giggle. “Let’s get a drink, shall we?”

Ollie nods his head and grabs my hand before leading me to a makeshift bar. I look around, amazed, admiring the place. It is enormous and has every facility you could think of—a luxury pool with a sauna, a bar, or a fully-equipped gym.

Ollie leans in and whispers into my ear from behind, “Thank you for agreeing to be my date tonight.” I turn to face him, and he places his fingers on my chin, tilting my head back so that I meet his gleaming eyes.

I give him an appreciative grin before replying, “Of course, Ollie.”

“Did Lilac say she would be joining us?”

“She’s working an extra shift tonight,” I say with a hint of disappointment. I’d feel so much better having my best friend beside me. “She might stop by after.”

“Hey, beautiful.” A random man leans toward me as I sit next to him at the bar.

“Oh, hi…,” I reply uneasily. Usually, strangers saying hello isn’t enough to set off my internal ‘stranger danger’ alarm, but something about this man makes me feel nervous.

Oliver clears his throat, sliding his hand around my arm as if trying to say, ‘stay away, she’s with me,’ making me feel better. Safer. He gives the man a stern look, and the creep moves away.

“Beer, liquor, or wine?” Ollie asks, and I smile, thanking him for getting rid of the weird guy.

“She’ll take a whiskey.” I hear Damien’s deep voice before I see him. My body flushes with warmth as he hovers behind me. “Won’t you, Firefly?”

The sparkle in Oliver’s eyes disappears. He clenches his jaw, staring at his best friend with anger building up in his eyes.Looks like the fun’s over.I turn to Damien, whose sight stops me in my tracks. Dammit. Why does he have to be so damn good-looking?

“He’s not wrong,” I state, admiring the beauty of the man in front of me who grins behind his glass, taking a sip of his drink.

“One whiskey coming right up,” Oliver says dryly, still glowering at his friend. “Look what the cat dragged in.” He finally snaps. “I thought you weren’t coming tonight. What changed your mind?”

“I needed a change of scenery,” Damien says casually. He finishes his whiskey in one shot before he turns to me. He tilts his head to the side and licks his bottom lip wickedly. The way his gaze roams up and down my body, scanning carefully every piece of me, causes my skin to tingle.Burn. Burn with desire.

“Firefly…,” he whispers, smirking as he slowly casts his eyes up, fixing his lustful eyes on mine. “Stunning.” He hisses, and a wave of heat rushes through my body.I want him.I fucking want this man.

“Ollie!” An auburn-haired girl shoves past me as she runs in excitement toward Oliver, snapping me out of my wicked thoughts.

“Sam!” Oliver exclaims just as enthusiastic at the sight of the tiny girl. “Wow! It’s been forever! I thought you’d moved.”
