Lilac holds up a cute blue spaghetti-strapped dress that falls mid-thigh and a black leather jacket in the other hand. She throws it together and shouts, “VOILA! Sexy meets badass biker chick.”

“Cute! But, I’m not a ‘biker chick’.”

“True, but your man owns a bike, and it’s how you get from point A to point B since you’re his lady,” she clarifies. His lady. Those words cause my stomach to flip. It’s funny. Just a couple of months ago, if I were to guess what I would be doing with my life, it would have literally been the same thing as before. Absolutely nothing.

“Stop overthinking, lady, and put it on,” she pushes the outfit in front of me.

I take one last look in my full-length bathroom mirror, run my hand through my hair to give it a little extra volume, and step out into my bedroom.

“Holy shit, girl! If Damien turns out to be a dud, I’ll be your lesbian lover,” she compliments me, wiggling her brows.

“It’s time to go. Your dad is in his office on a call. He already knows you’re leaving with me. So, give him a wave, and let’s get out of here.”

That is exactly how it goes down. I pass by his office. We stick our heads in and wave. He gestures a wave, and we are on our way.

Walking down to the gate, Lilac starts getting the giggles.

“Why are you laughing so much?”

“I am just happy you started having some fun. And, it’s with someone who seems like he would give you the world,” she says, smiling.

We turn the corner out of the gate, and Damien is there leaning against his bike, my helmet in hand. Not scrolling on his phone. Not distracted by anything but me.

“Get over here, Firefly,” he grins devilishly.

I hold up a finger for him to give me a minute. I turn to my best friend and give her a heartfelt smile. “You are the best friend a girl could ask for. Thank you for doing this.”

“Girl, I got you. Forever and always,” she says, reaching out for a hug. “Now go and have fun.” I watch Lilac hop in her car and drive away.

I prance to Damien, excited to start our night, and grab the helmet out of his hand. Before I slide it on, I give him a sensual kiss on his lips.

“Mmm. What an amazing start to the night,” he says in a low voice. Is he blushing?

He helps me onto the bike, and he tightens my grip around his waist. He pulls my knees closer to him and shouts, “Hold on, beautiful.” Before I can answer, he accelerates like a bat out of hell.

There is that rush I’ve been needing.

After a speedy ride down the empty Interstate, we arrive at the outdoor bar that lately has become one of my favorite places. Damien leads me in, his hand at the small of my back. Even the slightest of touches sets my body on fire.

We head to the bar and take two seats side by side.

“Two whiskeys, please,” Damien asks the bartender.

He looks at me with a worried look on his face. “I hope you don’t mind me ordering you a whiskey. I know that is your go-to…–”

“Damien. It’s fine. I appreciate you remembering,” I admit.

After we get our drinks, I take a sip, but I notice Damien staring at me with a mischievous smirk on his face.

“What? Do I have something on my face?”

“No, you’re fine.” He slowly comes closer before resting his hands on both sides of the countertop behind me, trapping me in between his arms.

“I just can’t take my eyes off of you. You’re gorgeous, Firefly.”

I bite my bottom lip to keep from an overly excited smile washing over my face. It’s the one where I show all of my teeth.

“Can I bite that lip, too?” He asks seductively.
