“You’re here to guard her from anyone but me. I’m basically your fucking boss. And your disrespect won’t be forgotten.”

“My apologies, Mr. Alarie. We were just doing our job, sir,” he says, abashed.

“Good. Now get out of my fucking way.” I say, walking past them before turning to look at them once again. “I said you may leave.”

They nod and do as I say.

I don’t enter my mother’s office but lean closer to eavesdrop. I hear Mallory’s voice, muffled but clear enough for me to pick up what she’s saying.

“Oliver’s plan didn’t work.” My blood runs cold. I knew it. I fucking knew it.

I take a deep breath, trying to focus on their conversation.

“You want me to fix everything like I always do, I presume?” Black Widow says, scoffing.

“I don’t think there’s anything you can do here, madam.” Mallory states.

“Do you forget who you are talking to, young lady?” Mother gets annoyed. She hates when someone questions her power.

“Do you think you can break your son again?”What? Again?

“Damien has fallen for this girl.” Mallory continues, “The Prosecutor’s daughter.”

“That is not possible!” That sentence rumbles loud.

“It is, and it’s happening,” Mallory says, completely unfazed by my mother’s tone or presence. She’s always been like that, which attracted me to her in the first place. But not anymore. Now I know that she didn’t care about any of us. “So, what are you going to do now? Will you take the love of his life away from him again? Like you did with me? Will you ruin your son all over again?” Now I’m really fucking confused. What does she mean?

My heart starts pounding, and adrenaline rushes through my veins. But not the kind of adrenaline you get from excitement. Adrenaline caused by anger building up in you.

Is my mother behind my break up with Mallory?

Did Mallory ever actually cheat on me?

I quickly put two and two together, and suddenly everything makes sense. At first, they claimed Mallory left to ‘chase her dreams’, but after they saw it didn’t work, it didn’t prevent me from seeking contact with her, they came up with that cheating shit. Is it possible?

“You underestimate me, Mallory.” Black Widow’s rigid voice snaps me out of my thoughts. “Just like the last time. That’s why you’re not a part of our family anymore.” I close my eyes, clenching my jaw. She’s just confirmed my assumptions.

I take a deep breath, hoping it’ll calm me down so that I won’t barge into her office and scream into her face how much I hate her. Why did she even do this? What did she have against Mallory?

“I will do whatever it takes to protect Black Venom. You may leave.”

“You’re sick, Raven!” Mallory snaps at her, and I know it’s my cue to leave before she leaves her office and catches me eavesdropping on them.

It takes me a few days to recover from the shock after revealing the truth about Black Widow’s wicked lies. I refuse to call her my mother. A mother would never act like she did, plotting behind my back, damaging me. I try to avoid her because I’m afraid I’ll explode, I’d most likely scream in her face that I know the truth about Mallory. The court trial is approaching fast, and mother demands I finally record the video showing Ava involved in something illegal so that we can use it before the trial to blackmail prosecutor DeLuca. But I have other plans.

Two days ago, she sent for me, and despite the dreading thought of seeing her again, it was the perfect chance to implement my plan. The meeting allowed me to plant a bug in her office. It wasn’t easy, but I am her son, so I am as cunning as Black Widow herself.

I’ve been watching the footage from her office but haven’t found anything useful thus far. Nothing I don’t know already. Although, it’s only a matter of time until I find something. I know there’ll be a time she’ll reveal another one of her secrets, and I’m here for it. And when I do, I’ll destroy her just like she destroyed me.
