“Dad–” I take a step toward him, my voice breaking. I don’t recognize him. He’s looking at me with so much rage in his eyes, so much… hate, it scares me.

“Don’t–,” he interrupts me, reaching out his shaking hand as if to stop me right where I’m at. “I’m not your father anymore! You made your choice today in the courtroom!”

“Dad, please…,” I watch him, rooted to the spot. “You don’t mean it.”

“Get out of my sight!” He shouts before turning his back to me. “Your mother is rolling in her grave right now!” He adds, and he sounds like he’s crying, but I can’t see his face as he leaves, slamming his office room behind him.

His words cut deep like a knife, tearing my soul apart. I can’t breathe. I feel like I’m suffocating, and his words keep ringing in my ears…

“I’m not your father anymore.”

“Your mother is rolling in her grave right now!”

“Get out of my sight!”

Damien

In the meantime

Right after the trial, I am summoned by Black Widow. Of course. I was expecting that. I’m driving to her mansion, smiling to myself, knowing she’s going crazy because of the video I had delivered to the court. I park in front of the main entrance, and Viper is already waiting for me with an angry look on her face.

“Your mother is expecting you.” She says dryly.

“Thank you, Viper.” I smile politely, pissing her off even more, before traversing the long, dark hallways leading to my mother’s office.

“You wanted to see me?” I ask, closing the door behind me.

“How could you go against my orders, Damien?!” She shouts, fuming, and I scan every trace of anger painting on her face. “You’ve made a fool out of me! What even was that video?”

“It was just a silly prank. Sorry.” I say mockingly, and she seethes with anger.

She takes a few steps closer to me, points her gun at my chest, and cocks it. I don’t move. Instead, I stare blankly into her dark eyes. My head tilted to the side, and I’m utterly unfazed.

“I swear to God, if you weren’t my son, I’d put the bullet right between your eyes.” I watch her hissing every word. Her lips are perfectly painted in a crimson shade of red like always. She stares coldly at me before putting the gun down on her desk.

She turns back to look me in the eyes, “Do you love that girl, son?”

I don’t answer.

“I have an offer,” she continues, wandering around me. “I’ll forgive you for this mistake if you lure Miss DeLuca into our mafia.”

I scoff before turning on my heel and leaving, banging the door behind me.

There’s no way in hell I’m going to help her lure Ava into this swamp. There’s no way in hell I’ll let her destroy Ava like I let her destroy me.

I sprint to my car, and as soon as I get inside, I reach for my laptop. I’m pretty sure Viper will go to my mother’s office to talk, so if I’m going to find something out, it’s now.

I start the device and open the app that lets me hear everything from the wiretap. And I wasn’t mistaken. I don’t have to wait long to hear Viper’s voice.

“Boss, are you okay?”

“I’m fine,” my mother replies angrily.

“I overheard your conversation with Scorpion.”

“Of course, you did.”

“You know I care about you, Raven.” Viper says softly. “I love you.”Love you?
