I typed fast, scrolled through my contacts to find my ex’s number, and hit send. I was surprised how it took him only a minute to reply. I felt my phone vibrating, and I quickly opened the text.

From: Theo :*

We don’t have anything to talk about.

U let a random guy fuck u.

I inhaled and exhaled a few times deeply before typing a response. I was dead set on not letting them get under my skin.

I noticed I still had his number saved with a kiss emoji next to it, so I immediately corrected that inadmissible mistake.

To: Fucker

At least I didn’t cheat on u with ur fuckin friend.

Maybe I should hit on Mike. I’m sure he’d be up for a hookup.

Again, I didn’t have to wait long for his response. It was so unlike him. Fucking hypocrite.

“Good morning, students.” Mrs. Ortiz walked into the classroom, holding a few textbooks in her left hand and her big black bag hanging on her right arm. Her stylish glasses on her nose complemented her professional gray suit. Her short burgundy curls were put behind her ear. “Sorry, I’m late. Please take your seats. We’re staring.” The room filled with noise as everyone rushed to their seats, shuffling their chairs against the tile floor.

I put my phone back inside my bag and took out my notebook, trying to focus on the lecture.

I RESTED AGAINST the concrete frame support at the back entrance of the university building, impatiently waiting for Theo. My heart fluttered in my rib cage, my fingers fidgeting. I was quite restless because I wasn’t the type to enjoy any kind of drama, but at the same time, I knew I had to confront Theo.

“Well, well. Who do we have here?” His mocking tone snapped me out of my thoughts.

I straightened up, clearing my throat. “We need to talk.”

“What? Did you miss my dick already?” he taunted, dropping his backpack on the ground before setting his rage-filled gaze on me. “Or did your lover boy get bored with you yet?”

“Don’t be such an asshole, Theo,” I said dryly, rolling my eyes. I crossed my arms and looked him in the eyes. “I want your new girlfriend to stop spreading rumors about our relationship being fake.”

He scoffed. “They aren’t rumors.”

“Theo, please!” I knitted my brows, sighing. “Neither of us is without blame here, but let’s have some respect for each other.”

He took a few steps closer to me, leaning against the concrete column behind me, trapping me between his arms. “You’re talking about respect?” he hissed, his eyes filled with fury. “You’re the one that disrespected me in front of the whole state!”

I clung to the support frame behind me. “Move back,” I said, my voice shaky. He was scaring me. The rage building up in his dark gaze looked horrid. I’d never seen him fuming like this before.

“You should be mine, Melanie,” he hissed through his clenched teeth, dropping his gaze to my lips, he brushed them with his thumb. “You are mine.”

He grabbed my chin with his fingers so forcefully that it hurt. He moved his other hand to my waist, pressing me against the cold frame, caging me in. I tried to free myself from his grip but it was in vain. I was taken off guard. I didn’t expect him to act like an abusive tyrant. He was too strong, and everything was happening too fast. He crashed his lips onto mine, forcing me to kiss him. I groaned, squirming as much as I could to set myself free, but the more I tried, the more he kept pushing me against the concrete support, squeezing my chin harder. Suddenly, someone grabbed Theo by his arm and swiftly pulled him away, and I could finally catch a breath.
