“Shane?!” I cried out, watching how he punched Theo with a killer rage in his eyes.

“You shouldn’t have done that!” Shane hissed, his voice cold with anger.

I jumped in fear, covering my mouth as I screamed, watching Theo falling to the ground, blood bursting out from his nose. I watched him struggle to stand up, ultimately rooted to the spot, my heart pounding.

“You fucking broke my nose!” Theo shouted angrily, wiping the blood away from his mouth.

“Stay the fuck away from Melanie,” Shane threatened, his gaze deadly. “Or next time, I’ll break more than just your nose.”

He shoved past Theo and took my hand. His mere touch made me feel safe and secure. We headed to the other side of the building, leaving Theo swearing and shouting all kinds of names after us, but I didn’t look back. I held Shane’s hand tight, thankful he showed up in time. Not only there, but in my life in general.

He was my savior, razing down the carefully crafted realm of deceit and abuse that held me captive.
