I wanted to go to the room where Melanie was getting ready, but I stood frozen in time as she walked into the living room. My eyes grew wide as I watched her casually swaying her hips as she took slow steps. She was wearing a full-length sparkling nude dress with a high cut on her left thigh. It had a plunging cutout narrowing down on her belly, with skin-like, transparent sleeves with shimmering embellishments. Her thick waves were left to hang loose, bouncing up and down as she walked. I was mesmerized by her beauty, and apparently, so was Callan. I glanced at him from the corner of my eye. He was speechless, looking at Melanie in a way I found disturbing. As if he wished she were his.
“Cat got your tongues, boys?” Melanie said teasingly, a broad smile forming on her glossy nude lips.
Callan cleared his throat. His gaze dropped to the ground for a short moment before he looked at me. “I’ll be around, boss.” I nodded, and he set his gaze on Melanie. His body was tense: “You look gorgeous, Miss Atwood.”
“Thanks, Callan,” Melanie said softly, and Callan pressed his lips together, nodding, and his gaze dropped again.
“Excuse me,” he said before leaving, avoiding both of our gazes.
I found the situation weird, but I assumed he was just intimidated by Melanie’s presence or her angelic beauty. Or at least, that was what I wanted to believe.
“Is it just me, or is it getting hot in here?” I said, walking toward Melanie with a provocative grin on my face.
“Forget it, Shane!” Melanie exclaimed, her eyes brightening up. “I won’t let you ruin my look.”
I chuckled, sliding my hands around her waist. “You know me too well.”
“Mm-hmm,” she muttered, wrapping her hands around my neck, our eyes locked.
“You look stunning,” I whispered, stealing a kiss from her lips. “We should get going because if we stay here any longer, I might rip that dress off of you.”
“You’re unbelievable!” She giggled before I grabbed her hand and led her downstairs, where Callan, who was our driver and Melanie’s bodyguard for the night, was waiting for us.
