I know everything. You’re lucky you’re inLA,or you’d be on your way to the hospital with broken bones now. If you ever try to touch my fiancée again, you’re a dead man. Yours truly, S.V.

I threw my phone onto the passenger seat and let out a deep sigh. I was tired of all the shit that had been coming up—on the same hand, I determined like never before to fight for my relationship with Melanie. I put my foot down, leaving the sound of the tires squealing as I drove away, heading to the only person that gave my life meaning. I was hoping I’d arrive before she woke up, leaving the darkness of this night behind. Now my only concern was confessing to Melanie the truth.

I ARRIVED AT MY APARTMENT around seven a.m. Melanie was still asleep, so I went straight to the shower, washing the remaining dirt and sins off my body. The cold water helped me cool down. I jumped into a white tank top and gray sweatpants and headed to the kitchen to prepare breakfast. I looked through the fridge to see what we had and decided to make an avocado salad. I knew Melanie loved it. Fuck, I knew everything about this woman. She had me under her spell, wrapped around her little finger.

“Hey.” Her soft voice reached my ear, and I looked up from chopping a cucumber to meet her gaze. “Where have you been? I woke up during the night, but you weren’t here. Is everything okay?”

I smiled, trying to dispel any of her doubts. I didn’t want to tell her any of the fucked-up shit that happened during the night. “Yeah, don’t worry. Just work.”

“Work? In the middle of the night?” She was rubbing her elbow, leaning against the wall, watching me with her big brown eyes.

I put the knife aside and headed toward her. I grabbed her chin with my fingers, leaning down so our eyes locked. “Melanie, you know what I do. I won’t pretend to be someone I’m not, but I don’t want you involved in any of this, okay?”

She nodded, letting out a quiet breath.

“Come on, let’s eat. I’ve prepared breakfast,” I grabbed her hand and led her to the kitchen island where the almost ready salad was waiting for her.

“Mmm. Looks delicious,” she muttered, licking her lower lip seductively as she gazed into my eyes, smirking.

I couldn’t fight the smile curling up my lips. “What? Me or the breakfast?”

“The breakfast,” she said, drawing her teeth over her bottom lip, her tone teasing. “Obviously.”

“You hurt my feelings,” I rasped, leaning into her ear, teasing her lobe with my tongue.

A soft moan escaped her lips, and she looked at me with sheer lust in her eyes. She kept glancing at me, breathing heavily before she whispered, “Make love to me.”

My eyes darted between hers before, with one swift move, I lifted her and set her on the kitchen counter, shoving away all the things in my way, and they shattered on the floor. We were kissing hungrily, impatiently taking off each other’s clothes.

I was so determined to tell her everything that day and finally confess to her the truth. But the effect Melanie had on me broke down every little piece of my will I had collected for the past few weeks to tell her about the revenge that no longer meant anything to me. Instead, I lost myself in the mad lust mixing with my love for this woman. I couldn’t resist her. I wanted her so badly. I craved her like a drug. Without her, I could no longer exist. So I made love to her as if there was no tomorrow, tracing every inch of her perfectly shaped body with my fingertips, memorizing every curve, every way my touch made her naked body shiver.
