Kemes nudged him with her elbow. "You are meant to be a well-mannered prince and haven't even introduced us. Rude."

"You really are the prince?" Fen asked, golden eyes going wide.

"You didn't tell her! So rude."

Khan let out a sigh. "Fenrys Rune-Tongue, this is Kemes and Kashmet, my cousins, bodyguards, and general burdens that I must bear."

Fen frowned. "Bodyguards that let you keep weapons on your wall and not locked away?"

"Sounds like she's judging us," Kashmet said, completely unbothered.

"She is. She got ahold of a dagger."

Fen grinned. "And I could have killed him easily too."

Kemes's eyes narrowed. "We leave you alone for five minutes, and a slave gets a dagger and tries to kill you."

"I didn't try," Fen corrected. "I just didn't do it."

"Why not? Because he's so pretty?" Kashmet crooned. Khan was going to murder them both.

"No, because he has the mark of my gods on his face. They told me not to."

Kemes tutted. "Khan, if you are going to bed arena champions, the least you could do is pay attention when they turn up."

"Hasina sent her to try and embarrass me, but we started talking about magic and—"

"You never know. It might be a good thing for this rumor to get around. Everyone will stop thinking you're a virgin now," Kashmet grunted.

Fen was watching them, looking thoroughly amused, golden eyes bright. Khan had to admit that she was beautiful in a strange way.

"I asked him if he was a virgin, and he got embarrassed," Fen said, making Kashmet and Kemes roar with laughter.

"You two are both assholes. Fen and I were having a lovely talk about magic, and you've come and ruined it."

"No wonder she decided not to fuck you," Kemes said, with a roll of her eyes. "I'm surprised she is still awake with one of your lectures."

"I was the one talking, not him," Fen told her.

Khan poured her more beer before Kashmet drank the lot. "Fen is a priestess of her people."

"I've never seen a priestess fight like you today," Kashmet said.

"I was a warrior before a priestess, and a lot of the women of my people fight. Usually better than the men," Fen replied.

"It's the same here," Kemes said solemnly. "I can kick these two to the sand every time with minimal effort."

Kashmet threw a dried date at his sister. "You are such a liar. Don't believe her, Fenrys Rune-Tongue. She was eating the ground that whole training session."

"Has she told you what the two-branched tree means yet?" Kemes asked, reaching for the paper with the runes drawn on it.

"It symbolizes Freya, a goddess of magic, sex, and war. Amongst other things," Fen explained.

Khan toyed with his earring thoughtfully. "Sounds like our goddess, Inanna."

"Why are you so curious about it?" Fen asked, looking between them.

Khan didn't have any reason to hide the truth; if she was a priestess of this Freya, she would understand visions.
