"I have seen that rune in my dreams and visions for the past few weeks, and I didn't know why."

Fen frowned. "It is strange. I could find out why, but I don't…"

"Don't what?"

"She doesn't trust you," Kemes said and grinned. "Obviously. And why should she?"

Khan looked at the pair of them. "Maybe you both should go to your own rooms and clean up so we don't have to smell your dirty training session."

Kashmet gave him a big wink. "Oh. Okay. Come on, Kemes. The prince needs someprivatetime."

"Nice to meet you, Fen. Try and stay alive in the arena," Kemes said, getting up and following her brother to their own rooms. They both gave Khan pointed looks when they were out of Fen's eye line. Khan sighed. He was never going to hear the end of this from either of them. He didn't like the idea of Fen going back into the arena, either.

"They are an interesting pair," Fen commented.

"They are the annoying siblings I've never had."

"You're lucky."

"I know." Khan smiled. "I want to try and help you."

Fen raised a brow. "And what would I have to do in exchange for this help?"

"Isn't it obvious? Oh gods, not that. I mean, magic. I want to know about magic," Khan hurried to explain. Fuck. What was wrong with him? He was usually good with words.

There was a knock at his door, and one of the Medjai called, "Apologies, my prince. You have a counselor here that says the Pharaoh wants to speak with you. I can escort the girl back to Nektos's people."

"Thank you!" Khan shouted back.

Fen frowned. "What is a pharaoh?"

"The Pharaoh is our king, and he's my father. I'm sorry we need to cut this short." He placed his hand over hers. "I can talk to Nektos. I will do what I can to keep you out of the arena."

"Thank you." Fen smiled and started roughing up her hair and smearing her makeup.

"What are you doing?" Khan asked, trying not to laugh. Fen looked about the table before taking a piece of sticky sweat fruit and smearing the juice on the inside of her thighs. Khan's whole body went uncomfortably hot. Fen smiled sly as a cat.

"Maybe she can explain it to you," she said, pointing to Kemes standing in the doorway. "Good night, prince."

"Good night, Fenrys," Khan replied quickly as she disappeared out the door. He turned to Kemes and Kashmet. "What are you two doing spying?"

"We heard the guard shouting." Kashmet nodded towards the door. "She's a brave woman to do that."

"What do you mean?"

Kemes rolled her eyes. "She's giving you a good reputation by making it look like you fucked her within an inch of her life. The fruit was a nice touch."

"Ah, why?" Khan asked, still confused.

"You can't be your age and be this naive, Khan. She's a slave. They will check for evidence that she did as she was told. Hopefully, there's no one in her holding cell that wants to fuck a prince's seconds."

Khan looked at them, horrified. "That… They wouldn't, would they? They wouldn't touch her because she's obviously been favored by me."

"Not how it works,?e?ru," Kashmet said sadly.Little brotherwas always something the twins called him when they knew he was upset, no matter how old they got. "She is awarrior, Khan. Don't forget she can take care of herself."

Cold fury laced through Khan's veins. It wasn't the point. Fen was a priestess, sacred to her Freya like Khan's mother was to Inanna.

"Unacceptable. We have to do something," Khan said, getting to his feet and beginning to pace.
