His phone rang and he pulled it out of his pocket and saw it was Gabe calling.

He answered and his brother asked, “Hey, did you and Bree want to come over for dinner? I’m putting some ribs on the grill.”

“Yeah, man. Sounds good.” Glenn jumped at the chance to get the hell out of here. Going to his brother’s house would save him from a night filled with wondering if he was going to have a Vivien sighting. Living this close to her was a serious mind fuck. “We’ll get cleaned up and head over.”

Glenn hung up the phone and put it in his pocket. “Bree! We’re going to Uncle Gabe’s for dinner.”

Bree’s face lit up and she pedaled back down the street with all her might. Glenn felt a warmth spread in his chest. She was so excited to be going over and seeing her cousins. Then he thought about the fact that they would only be here a few months and that warm feeling went away.

He loved his house in Chicago. He loved the city. But those things were beginning to seem less and less important.

The next few months would be very telling as to what the rest of his and Bree’s future looked like. Tomorrow was his first day training at the gym. Arturo Cruz was arriving in the morning. Glenn had watched a lot of tape on the fighter from across the pond over the past couple of weeks and felt like he had a solid plan to increase the speed of his handwork and footwork.

He was excited to take on the new challenge, but he had to admit he was a little nervous. It had been so long since he’d boxed professionally that, truth be told, he was intimidated to be stepping back into the world, even if it was solely in a coaching capacity.

When Bree got off her bike, he noticed that she had stains on her T-shirt and shorts and dirt in her hair and on her hands from the spill she’d taken at the park earlier. Washing her hands was not going to cut it.

“Go hop in the shower and rinse off real quick,” he instructed her.

“Okay!” she agreed cheerfully.

Since taking showers was a new thing to her, and represented her getting older, she was all about them right now. If he told her to shower four times a day, she’d gladly do it.

He had just secured Bree’s bike on the side of the house and was about to head inside when he heard the sound of clicking of heels on the driveway. He turned and saw a sight that stopped him dead in his tracks.

Vivien was walking toward him in a skintight black dress that ended just below her knees and red fuck-me heels. Her hair fell around her shoulders in soft waves and her eyes were lined with black making them look nearly electric blue.

Her cherry red lips lifted in a sexy grin. “Just the man I wanted to see.”

That statement shouldn’t have caused Glenn’s heart to stop beating, but it did.

“Can I ask you a favor?”

Anything. In this moment, he would give this woman anything she wanted. Instead of voicing that fact, he dipped his chin in a nod.

“I’m headed out and normally I tell my sister where I’m going and who I’m meeting but she’s on a pre-honeymoon so I’m telling you. I’m going to the Cove and meeting a guy named Dr. Fine. If I’m not home by tomorrow, you should tell Eric to start by looking in the mountain—"

“Don’t say things like that.” He knew that she was kidding, but the thought of her being hurt had all sorts of feelings rioting through him.

“You sound like my sister, Audrey.” Glenn hadn’t met Audrey, but he liked her already. “You’re going on a date?”

Glenn had no idea why he was suddenly being Captain Obvious. Of course she was going on a date. She was dressed to kill and meeting a doctor.

“No.” She shook her hand. “I’m going to a funeral. That’s why I’m wearing black.”

He knew that she was fucking with him, which he deserved. He remained silent.

A mischievous grin lifted on her mouth. “Yes, I’m going on a date.”

Fuck.Hearing her say the words was worse than he’d thought it was going to be. He didn’t like this at all. Not that he had any right to have any feelings on this situation.

“Do I look okay?” she asked, spinning around in a circle.

He really wished she hadn’t done that. Now he knew that the dress was totally backless. He had the overwhelming urge to throw her over his shoulder and carry her into her house caveman-style.

“Yeah,” he said flatly, hoping not to reveal his inner thoughts.

“Whoa!” She lifted her hands in mock-surrender. “Stop! You don’t want me to get a big head or anything.”
