“What’s up?” he asked, sounding not only disinterested but put out by this exchange.

Luckily, she knew better.

“Funny you should ask.” She sat up in the pool and moved closer to him, so close that his erection was only about a foot away from her. Her eyes dropped down to his crotch. “You are.”

He looked down and cursed beneath his breath as he adjusted himself. He didn’t look thrilled that his body had betrayed him or that she’d pointed said betrayal out. In fact, he looked downright pissed. But she was not swayed by his Oscar the Grouch impression and she continued.

“Which brings me to why I wanted to see you. I like you. I’m attracted to you. And I think,” her eyes dropped back down to his package, “you are attracted to me. I know you’re leaving at the end of the summer. I’m not proposing anything serious. But I would like to spend time with you, to get to know you better.”

She stared up at him waiting for an answer, when he didn’t respond she continued to plead her case. “We don’t have to take an ad out in the paper that says we’re dating. And in Hope Falls all that we’d have to do was be seen walking down Main Street together before we’d make the front page. We can be discreet. Steal moments like these when Bree is with family. Whatever happened between you and me would stay between you and me. We’d be just like Vegas, baby. No one else would have to know. Like I said, I’m not talking anything serious. Just two consenting adults having fun getting to know each other. A no strings, casual fling.”

She had to admit she was pretty proud of herself for getting through that speech. Sure, she was a confident girl, but she’d never propositioned someone as blatantly as she’d just done and it took balls to do it. She almost felt bad for all the guys that had gotten up the nerve to hit on her that she’d shot down. Almost.

Seconds ticked by, but if felt like minutes, hours even and Glenn didn’t say a word. She was tempted to say more but just like there was a fine line between cocky and confident, there was a fine line between desperate and bold. If she opened her mouth, she feared she’d step over that line.

“I don’t do casual,” Glenn Maguire finally spoke, then walked inside his house.

Viv sat in the kiddie pool staring at the closed door of the ADU. She had no clue how to respond to that. What straight, unattached man didn’t want a casual fling? Not just any casual fling, a casual fling with her?
