“Thanks!” Zoe took the compliment with grace and ease. Viv was sure it wasn’t the first time someone had exclaimed those words upon seeing her face. “So are you! I’ve heard so much about you.”

“All good, I hope.” Viv pasted on a smile to cover up the nerves that were popping like kernels of corn in a microwave in her belly.

She wondered how much Glenn had shared with his ex. Did this woman know that Viv had basically propositioned the man and been turned down? Twice.

“Bree hasn’t stopped talking about you,” Ana, er, Zoe continued.

Disappointment sank in Viv’s chest. So it wasn’t Glenn who had talked about her. It was Bree. Cool, cool, cool.

“I think she might be a little bit infatuated with you.”

If only it was a like-daughter-like-father situation, it would make Viv’s life much easier. Or at least a lot more fun.

“The feeling is mutual. She’s a sweetie pie.” Viv smiled.

“Well, it was nice meeting you.” Zoe waved as she walked off the porch. “You said they are around the back?”

“Yep, you can’t miss it, it looks just like this house but smaller,” Viv said brightly.

When she shut the door, she rested her forehead against the wood.

It looks just like this house but smaller? Why when she needed to be cool did all of her coolness evade her?

With a sigh she straightened and headed back to the kitchen where her computer was set up at the table. On her way she caught her reflection in the mirror and almost shrieked at the sight.

Her hair looked like a rat’s nest on top of her head. She had dark circles under her eyes courtesy of one gladiator who had caused her to have restless sheet-twisting nights since he arrived in town.

Of all the days to look like a hot mess, it had to be the day that a woman who could be a freakin’ Bond Girl’s twin and was the ex of the man Viv was currently infatuated with showed up at her front door.

She needed a shower. Maybe a little makeup. And a pushup bra. It might not solve all of her problems, but at least she’d be facing them feeling human.

“Mommy!”Bree exclaimed as she bum-rushed past Glenn and threw herself into Zoe’s arms.

“Hey Pumpkin, how are you?” Zoe bent down and embraced her.

As Glenn watched the two hug, he felt a rightness in his chest. Zoe had been so busy with work, this was the first time the mother and daughter were seeing each other.

“Okay, Peanut, go get your stuff.” Glenn ruffled Bree’s hair. “And go potty because you’re gonna be in the car for an hour.”

Zoe stood and Glenn could tell from her expression she was bursting with something to say.

“What?” he asked.

“I just met Vivien.”

Glenn remained silent. He wasn’t sure what his reaction was supposed to be.

“I know that Bree thinks she looks like Giselle but I think she’s got more of a Jessica Rabbit vibe.” His ex’s smile was still plastered on her face and he was fairly certain he knew what was coming next. “Didn’t you say your first crush was on Jessica Rabbit?”

Glenn put his hands in his pockets and sighed. “I never should have told you that.”

He’d been drunk when he’d made that confession and he’d regretted it immediately.

“I like her.” Zoe said as if she was giving him her stamp of approval.

“You don’t know her.”
