He’d never been good at expressing how he was feeling. Except when it came to his daughter. He had no problem telling her how much he loved her and that she was his world. But when it came to romantic relationships he’d always held back. When he was fighting, he did it because he was never really sure why women wanted him. Was it for him or was it because of what he did for a living?

But with Vivien, he didn’t want to hold back.

“It was the best sex I’ve ever had,” he revealed honestly. “I didn’t even know sex could be that good.”

From the corner of his eye, he could see her smile.

“Well, now that we’ve established that, I’m asking again, what is going to happen now?”

He still didn’t know how to answer that, so he once again turned the tables back on her. “You didn’t answer my question, what do you want to happen?”

She took in a deep breath as if she was going to be letting him down. Was this her way of telling him that she’d had fun but that’s all it was. Even though he knew that was the case, suddenly being faced with her spelling it out to him made him want to throw up.

“I know you’re leaving at the end of the summer. I also know that you don’t do casual,” she deepened her voice in what he could only assume was an impersonation of him. “But I like spending time with you. In and out of bed.”

“What about your rule?”

“My rule?”

“That you don’t date single dads.” Her answer meant a lot more to him than it should. She wasn’t asking for forever, just for the rest of the summer.

“You heard about that, huh?”

“It is Hope Falls.”

“I’m willing to bend my rule. For you.”

“Bend not break?” He wasn’t sure what the hell he was doing pushing her.

Her answer didn’t matter. He had rules of his own. His rule was making sure he didn’t fuck up his daughter.

“You haven’t earned break yet.”

That was a challenge he was more than willing to meet, but he knew that he couldn’t.

“I bent a rule for you, too.”

“Why? Because you don’t do casual.”

He sighed. She really wasn’t going to drop that, and he guessed he didn’t blame her. “You know last night when I told you that I haven’t been with anyone in a long time.”

She nodded.

“That’s because I have a rule of my own. I don’t date.”

“We’ve established that. You don’t do—"

“You’re never going to let that go, are you?”

“No.” She shook her head unapologetically. “I’m not.”

He grinned. “No. I mean, I don’t date at all. Ever, not casually or seriously.”

“Oh…okay.”

Glenn knew that this wasn’t coming out right. Just like it hadn’t come out right when he told her that he’d gotten a lead on her father.

“When Bree was about two, I started seeing someone. We were together for about six months and then Zoe came back. Monique, the person I was seeing, gave me an ultimatum. If I let Zoe back into my life, we were done.”
