Viv nodded. “Of course.”

“I understand your reasons for not saying anything to Grace and Ava when you started looking for him, they didn’t even live here then. But I was here. And we worked together every day. We see each other every day.”

Viv could see that Audrey was hurt that she’d kept it from her. She understood why. She’d feel the same way if Aud had kept something from her.

“I don’t know.” Viv had reasons she’d told herself for why she’d kept it a secret that she could give her sister, like she didn’t want to bring unnecessary drama into her life, or she didn’t want to get anyone’s hopes up, but deep down she knew the truth. “It was just something I had to do on my own.”

Audrey’s lips pursed the way they did when she had something to say but she didn’t want to say it. Audrey had always hated confrontation.

“What?” Viv prompted.

“It’s just… I heard that Glenn went with you when you found him.”

Shit.“He did.”

“So he knew about it?”

“I was moving stuff into the house and a box fell open and he saw all the research I did. Then, without me knowing, he contacted a friend of his who is a private investigator and that guy found him. He told me about the lead he’d gotten and didn’t want me driving to meet a strange man by himself, so he went.”

The bell rang above the door and a family walked in that Viv didn’t recognize which meant they were most likely tourists. Before they got to the counter Viv asked Aud. “Are we okay?

Audrey’s brow furrowed as she looked up at her sister. “We’re always okay. I just wanted to make sure I hadn’t done something to make you feel like you couldn’t tell me.”

“Never.” Viv shook her head. “You are the best, Auds. I love you!”

She gave her sister a quick hug and was heading to her car when she noticed Glenn was jogging away from the gym down the street. He was shirtless and his upper body was glistening with sweat. His body was literally out of this world amazing.

Why couldn’t their romance be like it was in the movies? Why couldn’t he feel her staring at him, turn his head, run across the street, sweep her up in his arms, and tell her that he couldn’t live without her? Why did she have to fall in love with someone who was emotionally unavailable for all the right reasons?

It made the situation layered, and like the vague Facebook status, complicated.

“What’s really going on between you two?” A male voice Viv instantly recognized sounded behind her.

She turned and saw her soon to be brother-in-law Josh standing there holding a greasy rag.

Her eyes narrowed. “How long have you been standing there?”

“Long enough to see you drooling,” he teased.

Automatically, she lifted her hand to her mouth. No drool.

“I wasn’t drooling,” she said defensively.

“I know, but you had to check so that means you could have been.”

Normally she enjoyed her and Josh’s banter. Out of all the new additions to the family, Josh was the one that already felt like her brother, which made sense because they’d been friends for so many years. But today, she wasn’t in the mood to exchange verbal barbs with him.

He crossed his arms. “So, are you going to tell him how you feel?”

“What are you talking about?” She played dumb. She hadn’t even told her sisters or Nonna about what was going on with her and Glenn, and she wasn’t about to have a heart to heart about it with Josh.

“I’m talking about you telling The Gladiator how you feel about him.”

The look in his eyes told her that playing dumb wasn’t going to work. He obviously knew, or thought he knew that there was something going on. She wasn’t going to deny it, so she answered honestly. “Nope.”

“Why not?”

“Because it doesn’t matter.”
