“Touch me.” He taps his chest.

I lick my lips as my shaky hand lifts, brushing his hard pec.

“I’m it. I suggest you run.” He smiles, showing off his straight, sharp white teeth at me, though it’s not friendly, or caring.

It’s menacing, and evil.

“Run,” he whispers, and the word alone has a chill running through me. I spin on my feet, racing through the woods, cutting back and forth through trees, my breaths panting out of my chest as I race with every ounce of speed I have in me. My legs quickly ache at the pace I’m running, my heart pounding in my ears.

I hear him, and I refuse to look over my shoulders.

He’s fast, but I’m also small enough to dart under branches that will slow him down. I run like my life depends on it, having no sense of direction in the dark, but I can’t stop. I refuse to slow down even for a second.

I have to do this.

I have to win.

I have no idea how long he will allow this to go on for, but after so long, my legs go numb, feeling more like weights instead of weapons to help me.

“Please,” I pant, so exhausted. “I can’t run anymore!” I shout at him, my speed slowing just an inch.

“Trust me, you do not want to lose this game, Hazel.”

I whimper, my feet picking up once again, until I break through the trees and my heels dig into the ground.

“Shit!” I squeal, just as arms wrap around me, pulling me back from falling over the edge of the cliff.

Felix holds me to him, and my entire body trembles as I see Lake Superior below, crashing angrily against the shore.

“I win,” he growls, molding me against his body.

My fingers lift, and I point to the other side of Castle Pointe.

Somehow, we ended up at the bridge that was burnt down. We haven’t been here since that day, and horrible memories come back to me, enough for me to flinch, curling into the enemy, Felix becoming my protector when I was just his prey.

“I don’t want to be here,” I whimper.

He stands like a statue behind me, and finally, his body settles, wrapping around me like a shield as he continues to pull me back from the edge.

“It’s crazy to think about what happened, what lay on the other side. We went through a lot of shit, Hazel. It’s normal to be freaked out by this place.”

I let out a shaky breath, relaxing into his warmth. “Do you think it’s over for us now? Do you think Castle Pointe can finally get some peace?”

His body tightens behind me, growing still. “Knowing us, and knowing Castle Pointe, I don’t think it’ll ever be over, Hazel.”

That’s exactly what I’m afraid of.

The end, for now
