“I know.” My stomach turns.

“Right now. We need to question her right now.” Pascal stands up.

“Wait, what’re you doing?” I stand to block his exit. He narrows his eyes at me. He’s bigger than me, older than me, and taller than me. He doesn’t scare me though. No one does, except maybe my father. That’s a downfall for me. I’ll get killed some day for not having a fearful bone in my body.

“Going to get her?” He phrases it like a question. And like I’m dense as hell.

“Wait.” I lift my hands, and everyone looks at me in irritation. “Let me go and grab her. She’s skittish. And doesn’t know you.”

“But she knows you?” Pascal laughs at me. “After what, ten hours? You fuck her already?” The guys chuckle around the table, and I can feel my blood turn hot. Irritation spikes through my veins to the point I feel feverish.

The air in the room is choking, but the blood thumping through my body is anything but.

“No, you fuckers. I’m notfuckingher. I’m about ready to lay a fist into you, too, Pas, if you keep talking about her like she’s a fucking Jessie.”

The guys quiet down but look like they want to laugh.

“I’ll go get her.” I leave the room without another word. Standing at the other side of the door, I can hear my name being mumbled.Fuckers.They’re pissing me off. Putting me on edge lately.

Or maybe I’m on edge because there’s a blonde haired, blue eyed girl that belongs on the beach but looks like she’s been trapped in a cage. For years. Her skin might glow from the rays of the sun, but the light deep within her has been burnt out. And for the life of me, I don’t understand why I want to figure out how to turn on that light again.

I can instantly tellI’ve made a mistake when I shut the door, leaving Ivy trapped in a room with the guys. She looks like she’s moments from a panic attack. The guys look like they want to rip her apart. I sit in the chair next to my father and stare at her. If I coddle her and act like her guard dog, I’ll get torn apart. Every single guy in here will tear me to shreds, and then Ivy will be left to the wolves.

“Sit down, Ivy.” I nod to the only empty chair, right in between Jex and Niles. She slides into the chair, back ramrod straight and ass right on the edge of the chair. I can imagine her toes pressed into the ground, ready to bolt at any given second.

“Ivy?” My dad says, rolling his chair forward so he’s right against the table.

Ivy nods.

“My name is Lynx. Seems my boy Aziel here has taken an interest in you.” I turn to glare at him. What the fuck is he doing?

Ivy says nothing.

“How old are you, girl?”

“Nineteen.”

“Where are you from?”

She glances over to me, pausing a beat before looking back at my dad. “Mexico.” The word is strained as she works it through her lips. What is she hiding? Why is she so scared?

Pops takes his time pulling a cigarette out of his pack on the table. He taps it against the table a few times before sticking it between his lips and lighting it. Taking a long drag before, he stares at her a moment before settling it between the grooves in the ashtray. “Now, with a midwestern accent like yours, I’m inclined to think that’s a lie.”

Ivy stares at him, the glow draining from her face and leaving her a ghostly white. “I’m from Mexico.”

“AndbeforeMexico?”

Her gaze fades away and leaves her with a faraway look. “Ohio.”

“Ohio.” My dad repeats, smoke seeping from between his lips with each syllable. The look on his face is inquisitive. “How’d you go from Ohio… to Mexico?”

She brings her hands to the hand rests and squeezes tight. “I think you know.” She chokes the words from her throat. Her face pales, her sun kissed skin fades into a sickly white as she stares at the wall.

“No, kid. I want you to tell me.” He steeples his fingers on the table and gives her a look. A look that screams‘you’re not leaving until I get what I want.’

“I was taken.” Her gaze falls from the wall to her lap. Like she’s embarrassed. Of being stolen? What the fuck.
