“Miss Clarkson,” he stated.

“Who is that?” I asked.

“She’s the maid of honor,” Katherine said. Then she asked Richard, “Why did Danielle come to see you?”

“Maybe she attends his church,” I offered as a reasonable explanation.

“No, she doesn’t. Miss Clarkson wanted to speak to me,” Richard stated.

“About Katherine being pregnant?” None of that made any sense, but I couldn’t come up with any other reason she’d need to talk to him. Maybe it is a spiritual reason and none of our business.

“Actually she wanted to speak to me about…you,” he said.

“Me? That’s stranger than talking about Katherine. Until now, I didn’t even know her name. Why on earth would she decide to talk to not just any priest, but my brother, about me?” I asked and couldn’t wait for his explanation.

“She hadn’t sought me out as a priest, well, not entirely. And as for the two of you not knowing each other, you know her better than I do,” he said, peering curiously at me.

“Believe me, Richard. We hardly know each other,” I stated. I wouldn’t mind getting to know her. There definitely had been a sexual chemistry back then. I had no idea how old she was at that time, but I knew she was too young for me. Seeing her yesterday, touching her even briefly, I knew that connection was still there. Her reaction to me said she’d felt it as well. It also was apparent that she had been trying to ignore it, and like me, was failing.

“Would it surprise you to know that she thought I was you?” he asked.

Sure as hell it would.I lifted a brow.

“She thought I was a priest?”

Richard nodded and I ran my hand through my hair. “Damn, I really must be losing my sex appeal if she can’t tell us apart.”

Richard glared at me, not finding the humor in it that I did. “That’s all you have to say? You’re not worried about how it might have affected me or her?”

I shrugged and he added, “Maybe you don’t want to know what she said about you either,” he inquired.

“Isn’t there some confidentiality thing that makes it so priests can’t tell people what they discuss with parishioners?” I asked.

“That doesn’t apply to this conversation. If it did, I wouldn’t be talking to you now about it,” he stated firmly.

“I can’t picture whatever was said as being all that interesting,” I replied. I wanted to know, but didn’t want my siblings to know the depth of my curiosity.

“You’re wrong. And I really would like to hear your side of the story as well. I’m sure Katherine is interested too, aren’t you?” he asked her, grinning.

“I’m so nauseous that I’m not sure I’ll enjoy anything right now,” she sighed.

“So you don’t want to hear it?” he asked.

Katherine shrugged. “How about you just tell the important parts?” she suggested.

“Okay. I guess Miss Clarkson has spent more than thirty years thinking that she had made out with me, and not Robert,” he said, smirking at me.

Katherine’s eyes widened. “You were a priest back then,” she said.

“Yes. And all this time she’s been feeling needlessly ashamed,” Richard said. “Then again, kissing Robert isn’t something to be proud of, either.”

Smart ass.

“Wait. How could she have thought I was a priest? First, I don’t dress like one, and secondly, I remember that kiss. There was nothing holy about it.” If she was closer to my age, I’d have asked for her number.

Richard rolled his eyes. “Sometimes I can’t believe we are twins.”

“I know. I’m so easygoing and you’re so uptight,” I stated.
