But he didn’t kiss me. Instead, he said, “How about looking at the stars tomorrow night at the ocean?”

“Don’t you have a lot to do this week? I’m sure you have insurance companies to deal with.”

“They are closed at night, so I’m free. Unless you don’t want to see me again,” he said.

“I do, but…” I couldn’t come up with a valid excuse, not even for myself. “I’d love to. Since you live much closer to the water, I’ll come to you,” I said.

He shook his head. “I’m not letting you drive home alone so late at night by yourself. I’ll pick you.” He got up and said, “Not that I want to leave, but I better get going. It’s late and I have a meeting in the morning.”

I walked him to the door and said, “Drive safely.”

He leaned over and kissed my lips briefly. “Sleep well, Danielle.” Then he left.

I closed the door and brought my fingers to my lips. They still tingled from delight of the gentle contact.

I’ll never stop dreaming of you if you keep doing that.

It might be another sleepless night, but I wasn’t complaining.
