“It’s okay. We’re still in the gazebo,” I said as I pulled my phone out. “Sorry, I have to take this. It’s Richard.”

“That’s okay.”

“Hi Richard, is everything alright?” I asked. He knew I was out with Danielle, so his calling now, concerned me.

“Are you someplace that you can turn on the television?” he asked.

“No. Why?”

“Because another restaurant is on fire. You won’t believe which one,” he said.

“Just tell me,” I demanded.

“QueenBee’s,” he said.

That was just a block away from Bella’s. “Are you serious? Did they say what happened?”

“Only that there was a person injured in the fire.”

“An employee?” I asked.

“No further information given. But two restaurants, that close to each other and only days apart? It looks like someone is targeting that area,” he said.

“It doesn’t matter what we think, it’s what the police know,” I replied. “Thanks for letting me know,” I said before ending the call.

“Is everything okay?” Danielle asked.

“I don’t know. Richard thinks the person who torched my building just did the same to another one. But he’s just guessing. I want to hear what the police have to say,” I stated.

She pulled the blanket off and got up. “Then what are we waiting for? Let’s go and find out.”

I sat there looking up at her. “It’s close to eleven.”

“Police stations don’t close, at least not that I know of,” she said, sounding so innocent.

I got up and smiled. “They do not, but I’m sure they are investigating that fire just like they did mine. They are not going to give us any information that I don’t have already.”

“Oh. Then I guess since we’re already up, we might as well head back to my house,” she said.

“Ready to call it a night?” I asked.

“No, but I’m craving some of that pudding,” she said.

“We just ate dessert,” I reminded her.

She asked, “Does that mean you don’t want any?”

There was something in her eyes that said this had nothing to do with pudding. She wanted this night to continue and so did I.

I took the blanket from her and tucked it under my arm, then grabbed her hand and said, “I’ll find room.”

We took the highway back because at night, I didn’t want to cross paths with a deer dashing out of the woods, and I also wanted to get back to her place where we could be alone.

The ride back was so much faster, and we did very little talking. The radio was all we needed in the car. When we got back to her place, I half expected her to have changed her mind. If she had, I’d respect that decision. I didn’t want her to do anything she wasn’t ready for. Hell, even I had second thoughts last night, and I haven’t come close to living a saint’s life. I still had questions regarding my feelings for her, but there was one thing I knew. I wanted her more than I’ve ever wanted any other woman.

As soon as the door closed, Danielle locked it behind her. She hadn’t done so last night when I was here. Then she turned and gave me a deliciously playful smile.

“Do you want...pudding, or…maybe something else?” she asked, then bit her bottom lip.
