Danielle

I didn’t want to open my eyes in case it had all been just a beautiful dream. Goodness knows I’ve had enough of them. But it hadn’t been real, I’m not sure I want to wake up. My heart would shatter because the fall from experiencing such joy was going to be painful.

Stretching my hand out I felt the cold, empty sheets. I pulled the blankets up over my head, and squeezed my eyes tightly closed.

“Are you going to spend all morning under the covers, or would you like to go out for breakfast with me?” Robert asked.

I tossed the blanket off me and sat up, thrilled to see his handsome face, a little disappointed to find him dressed. “It wasn’t a dream.”

He smiled. “I sure as hell hope not, because if it was, it was a wet dream.,” he winked.

Don’t get me going, because I already don’t want to leave this bed.

“Are you sure you want to go out for breakfast?” I asked, moving the blanket even further off so he could see all of me.

“Don’t tempt me, Danielle. Because leaving your bed wasn’t easy, but I do have a meeting later this morning that I can’t miss.”

“I do recall you saying something about that last night, but you…distracted me with…those delicious kisses of yours,” I said, giving it one last try. “I thought your meeting was at eleven.”

“It is,” he said.

“And it’s only nine,” I grinned.

“And I have an hour drive, and we still need to eat.”

He walked over the bed, scooped me into his arms and carried me to the bathroom. Then he put me down and said, “Better shower quickly or I’ll have to go and have breakfast alone.”

“You wouldn’t,” I said, pretending to be hurt.

He leaned over and kissed my forehead. “The clock is ticking,” he said, and stepped out of the bathroom, closing the door behind him.

The hot water felt refreshing, but I needed to shower quickly. He was leaving and I didn’t want to spend our limited time apart. When I got out of the bathroom, I noticed my bed was made. Was that him being sweet and helpful, or a subtle hint that we weren’t using it again this morning? We were still getting to know each other, and I honestly had no idea which the made bed represented.

I hated to admit it, but Robert made the right choice declining my offer earlier. Sex with him was…indescribable. There was all the passion of new lovers, but we also knew how to please each other like we’ve been lovers for years. I didn’t want our relationship to be solely based on that. What I’m not sure about was what Robert was looking for.

He had so much going on in his life at the moment that maybe what was happening between us was nothing more than a sweet distraction from all the bullshit. Normally, I’d be straightforward and ask. The timing wasn’t right to do so. It would be adding pressure to him, and most likely, I’d get an answer I didn’t want to hear. That didn’t mean we couldn’t take time to get to know each other better.

I looked in the mirror and hoped he didn’t mind my casual attire. When I’m not working, I enjoy jeans and a t-shirt. Since it was just breakfast, this should be fine. As I left my bedroom and caught sight of him, I chuckled to myself. He had no change of clothes here, and it looked as though a button or two might have popped off last night.

“I have some thread if you want me to sew the buttons back on,” I offered.

“That would be great, however I can’t seem to find them anywhere,” he said.

“I could sew the shirt closed,” I said.

He held a stapler in his hand and said, “I found this on your desk. It will do the trick for now.” Holding the cotton fabric together, I watched as he placed a staple in place of buttons.

“I…never would’ve thought of doing that,” I said.

“Amazing what a single man can think of out of necessity,” he grinned, placing the stapler back on my desk.

“And here I was thinking the invention of needle and thread was handy.” I walked over and grabbed my purse. “Since you’re all put back together, do you still want to go have breakfast?”

“I do. Since we are in your hometown, I’ll let you suggest the place.”

There was one place that I went to all the time. That’s the problem, they know me there. If I show up with Robert, I will be the talk of the town. I was not ready for that. I haven’t even messaged Ellen and Lori yet to update them on what’s been going on.
