I looked at my watch and had enough time to check on my sister before heading back north to pick up Danielle. Instead of calling, I decided to stop in. When I pulled up to her house, there was a police detective car parked in her driveway.

I really could use Danielle right now to calm my ass down.

I could feel my heart pounding in my chest. Who the hell did they think they were coming and harassing my pregnant sister? I wasn’t going to stand for this. Even if it meant I landed in jail, I was going to tell them exactly what they could do with their so-called investigation.

I didn’t even bother knocking on the front door, and just opened it and walked inside. “What the fuck do you think you’re doing here?” I blasted Detective Perez.

He stood up and said, “This is between me and Katherine. Mind your business.”

“The hell I will. You can call and threaten me all you want, but my sister is off limits. Do you understand?” I warned him.

“I’m telling you, this has nothing to do with you,” he said.

Katherine got up and stood between us, her arms stretched out as though she could prevent us from fighting. “You two need to stop this. It’s not good for me or the baby,” she said.

My fist still clenched, I looked at her, then at Perez. “Why don’t we take this outside,” I said.

“Robert, you should go. I’ll call you later,” she said.

“Me? Why me? He doesn’t belong here. This has nothing to do with you,” I said.

She looked puzzled. “No. This has nothing to do with you,” she stated.

“What the hell are you talking about Katherine? Detective Perez is here trying to get information about me. You don’t need to talk to him. If he has any questions, he needs to talk to me,” I barked.

“I know you love me, Robert, but this is my life. I make the decisions for me and my baby. And if I want Marco in my life, in his baby’s life, then that is my choice to make,” she said.

His baby’s life?

“Are you telling me that this bastard is…”

“The father,” Marco said. “And as Katherine stated, we don’t need your opinion on what to do.”

“I thought you didn’t want anything to do with the baby.” I thought you wanted her to get rid of it.

“I have to admit, when she told me, I didn’t handle the news very well. Katherine and I didn’t know each other for long and I might have thought she was trying to trap me into marriage or something. It’s not unheard of,” he said.

“I’m aware of that. But my sister is not that type of person,” I stated. “And I’m not so sure I like the way you treated her either. She deserves better.”

“I agree. That’s what I was just explaining to her. I can’t take back what I said, but I can tell you that I will be there for my son or daughter and support them in any way I can,” he said.

I wanted to hate the guy, but he was stepping up to the plate now. Katherine might have said she didn’t need or want him in their lives, but the expression on her face now, said otherwise.

“Robert, please, don’t cause problems for us. I know you’re angry, but Marco changed his mind. He wants to be involved in our baby’s life. And I want my child to know his or her father too. Can you please let this go?” she begged.

I nodded and Marco said, “Thank you. And for the record, I’m no longer on the case due to my connection to your family.”

“What case?” Katherine asked.

“The investigation surrounding Bella’s restaurant,” he said.

“I thought you found the woman who lit the fire,” she said.

“We have. But we need to gather facts,” he said.

“Like what kind of facts?” she asked. He didn’t answer, just looked at me. Katherine wasn’t stupid and figured it out on her own. Her eyes widened and she said, “Are you telling me that you think my brother had something to do with it?”

“I am not on the case any longer, Katherine,” he stated.
