“Okay. Does your department believe he is guilty? Because I can tell you my brother never would’ve done such a thing,” she snapped.

“Katherine, I’m not on…”

“Then you need to listen to what I have to say and then go tell whoever is in charge the facts. Robert had nothing to do with it. Bella was my mother’s name. That restaurant was her dream. We loved our mother and never would have done anything to dishonor her memory,” she said. Tears started to stream down her cheeks. She wiped them and then added, “Damn hormones.”

I was about to go and comfort her, when Marco stepped in and wrapped his arms around her.

“I’ll tell them, Katherine. Don’t cry. It’ll be okay. They are just doing what they need to, but it will be okay,” he said.

She sobbed into his chest and said, “Thank you, Marco.”

I wasn’t thanking him just yet. She might be welcoming, but I was going to keep my eye on him. I knew nothing about the man except for what I saw in the interrogation room. That didn’t leave me with a warm fuzzy feeling for him. But I trust Katherine, and she never would’ve been involved with him if he was an asshole.

There was no need for me to stay. Katherine was right. They needed to work things out alone. That didn’t mean I wasn’t about to share what I learned with Richard.

Always good to have another set of eyes watching out for our baby sister.

I called Richard and let him know I was on my way. Stopping in on him at the church never worked out for me. Someone always thought I was him and started talking about things I shouldn’t know.

At least Danielle can tell us apart.
