“Date? I didn’t know a priest could date,” she said.

“He’s not a priest, Lori. His twin brother is,” I stated.

She looked at me and said, “Are you serious? Someone this good looking is a twin. Nice.” She turned back to Robert and said, “So did she kiss you or your brother?”

He smiled. “Me.”

“And have you two…kissed again?” she asked. I rolled my eyes and mouthed, sorry.

“We have. And before you ask, I liked it,” he winked at me.

Lori said, “I think you did a lot more than kiss, but I’ll ask Danielle for those details when we have time. I should get going anyway. I have a plane I need to catch in a few hours.”

“Where are you headed?” he asked.

“Back to Aruba. I’m supposed to be on my honeymoon, but something came up.” Lori’s light heartedness faded quickly.

“You’re not leaving Lori. I told you that I’ll go with you,” I said.

“You’re flying out to Aruba to join them on their honeymoon?” Robert asked, looking shocked.

“It’s…complicated,” I said.

“No, it’s not,” Lori stated. “If you want to hear the story, I’ll tell you.”

Robert looked at her and said, “I’ll listen.”

I knew he wasn’t prepared for what Lori was about to reveal any more than I was. But he sat there and listened to her, never once interrupting her, and even reached out and held her hand as she fought to keep her composure. What happened next shocked me yet again.

“Lori, Danielle is right. You shouldn’t go by yourself. You need to be surrounded by the people who love you. I know your wife Ellen will need that support too. Danielle and I can fly with you. This way, Danielle can be there if you need her. And I can be there if Danielle needs me,” he said.

“Robert, you don’t have to do this. I can go with Lori by myself. I know you have things that you need to take care of here,” I said.

“Danielle, I wouldn’t have offered if I didn’t mean it. I’d be happy to go with you, if you want me to that is,” he said.

More than you know.

“Of course, she wants you there. Don’t you, Danielle,” she said.

“Lori, it’s not that simple,” I said.

“It sounds simple to me,” he said. “You want me there or not.”

“I…I…guess we are going to Aruba,” I said.

Lori hugged me and then turned and hugged Robert. “I’m so glad she has you in her life. She won’t tell you this, but she needs you.”

“I’ll take good care of her,” he said.

“I think you two need to book a flight. Here’s my flight information. See if you can get one with me. If not, I’ll see if I can move mine,” she said.

I pulled out my laptop and searched for flights. Surprising, they still had two seats available from Boston. I looked at Robert and gave him one more chance to back out. “Are you sure?”

“I’m positive,” he said.

I booked the flights and Lori smiled. “You have no idea what this means to me. With you being there, it means that Ellen and I can still stay and make as many memories as we can, while we can.”

Yes, because those memories will be what she cherishes for the rest of her life.
