Then Lori said, “Who knows, maybe you two can get married and honeymoon while you’re there too.”

I gave her a warning look. “Don’t push it. We already said we’re going, but I’m sure he still has time to cancel his flight.”

“He wouldn’t do that. He promised to take care of you and I don’t think he’s the type of guy who breaks his promises. Am I right, Robert?” she asked.

“You are correct,” he said. “But I never agreed to a wedding,” he added.

Lori shrugged. “Can’t blame me for trying. I mean, I wouldn’t have minded seeing her find her happily-ever-after while I’m still able to.”

“Maybe I should cancel my flight too,” I warned her, but she knew I’d never do that either.

“Wait till Ellen sees you two. Maybe she won’t be as pissed off at me as I think she’ll be,” Lori stated.

She won’t be. She’ll be too busy crying to be angry.
