“What is that?” I asked.
“When do we tell Penny, Carson and Dottie? I know none of them will ever forgive us if they’re not invited.”
“I’m not sure you’d even be safe on a military base if we didn’t invite Penny. But that’s something we can discuss tomorrow. Tonight, let’s celebrate my upcoming retirement.”
“And our upcoming nuptials,” he added. “Where would you like to go to celebrate?” he asked.
“I know a cozy place out on the deck with a hammock on it. Want to grab some wine and watch the stars?” I asked.
“Who wants to watch stars when I can look at you,” he said, pulling me close.
I could spend the rest of my life enjoying being in his tender embrace, and never grow tired of it.
“I have another place that might appeal to you more.” I took his hand and led him to the bedroom and closed the door.
This time as we made love, it was as though we were starting yet another new chapter in our lives together. Each one, better than the last.
Our story is just beginning, but I already know by how he shows me that he loves me each day, in many ways, that it’s going to have a happy ending.
I’m so glad I followed my gut. It brought me to the place I was meant to be. In his tender embrace.
