She doesn’t even bother to pretend she’s doing anything other than checking me out. Instead of feeling like I just won a million dollars, like when Savannah looks at me, I feel nothing. This isn’t the first time that a woman has found me attractive, but this is the first time it hasn’t fazed me. There is no one else in this world I want more than Savannah, and this woman ogling me like a piece of meat is the one thing keeping me from her.

I clear my throat, trying to help her focus on something other than my chest.

“Good afternoon, sir.” Her eyes snap up to mine, her cheeks turning red as she nervously flips through the notepad in her hand. “We found a car reported stolen a few yards from your driveway this morning and are canvassing the area to see if anyone has noticed anything suspicious over the last forty-eight hours.”

“Can I ask what this is about?” I reach my right arm above my head, leaning against the doorframe. “I mean, if you want to know if I have a girlfriend, you could just ask me directly.”

The deputy licks her lips before giggling nervously. “I’m here on business, Mr.…”

“Just Brooks.” My eyes flick down toward the name tag on her chest. “Deputy Flores. A fitting name for such a beautiful woman.”

Her shoulders roll back slightly as she sticks her chest out a little further. This uniform isn’t doing her any favors, but I can tell she’s a good-looking woman that would make any guy happy. Too bad for her, I’d rather send her back down my driveway and off the mountain before I’d invite her inside.

“No, but that doesn’t mean we can’t have a friendly conversation.”

The words leave a foul taste in my mouth. The last thing I want to do is lead this poor woman on, but I need her to leave instead of snooping around and asking too many questions. I don’t want to lie to law enforcement, but I will if that means I can keep Savannah safe and away from her stepfather.

“Friendly conversation. Of course.” She pulls a pen from her shirt pocket and scribbles something on her pad. “Here’s my number. We can continue our friendly conversation over dinner tonight?”

“Not tonight, beautiful. But I’ll keep this in a safe place for next time.”

“That’s what all the men say,” she scoffs before shoving her notepad back into her pocket.

The last thing I want to do is go out with this woman, but she doesn’t need to know that. I need her to at least have a little hope that I’ll call. Leaning forward, I run my nose along the curve of her neck before whispering in her ear.

“But believe it this time.” My lips brush against the shell of her ear, causing her to shiver slightly before I take a step back. “And to answer your question, I came home a little after midnight last night from a business dinner and went right to bed. There was no one here but me.”

She raises her eyebrow, eyeing me skeptically before running her fingers along my bare chest. “You have a good day, Brooks.”

“You too, Deputy Flores.” I give her a flirtatious wink before closing the door softly behind me and shoving her number into my pocket.

I drop my head back onto the door and close my eyes, releasing a breath I didn’t realize I was holding.

The stolen car must be how Savannah ended up on my doorstep. Either it broke down or she ditched it. Either way, someone is going to come snooping around again soon. I need to talk to Savannah and figure out a way to settle this, and fast. If money is what her stepfather wants, I’m sure we can come to an agreement.

Savannah stands at the bottom of the stairs, both hands on her hips and fire in her eyes. Her chin is raised in defiance as she strides toward me, wearing my shirt I tossed on the floor earlier, the front unbuttoned just enough to expose the swell of her tits, which causes my cock to harden.

“How much of that did you hear?” I reach up and rub the back of my neck, trying to figure out how to explain to her what happened.

I have the sinking feeling that she must have heard a good chunk of my conversation with the officer, and she is none too happy. I doubt I’ll be able to flirt my way out of this one.

“Enough,” she croaks, water collecting in her eyes as she rears her hand back and smacks me hard across the face. “You’re a goddamn asshole, you know that? You made me believe…”

I reach for her, wanting to wrap her in my arms and explain what happened, but she takes a step back.

“Don’t fucking touch me, asshole.” Her voice breaks as a single tear steams down her cheek. “You don’t really want me. Am I too young? Too naïve? Why would you tell me you wanted me forever if the only thing you wanted was a piece of fucking ass?”

Her entire demeanor has changed. Gone is the strong spitfire that was on the verge of giving me her heart, replaced by a broken and confused little girl. Just a few minutes ago, I promised her the world, told her that I wanted to get her pregnant and give her everything she ever wants in life. But what she walked in on made me out to be a liar, no better than every other person who has failed her over the years.

“Is that what you think?” I growl, grasping her wrist, spinning around, and pinning her body against the door. “You have no idea how long I’ve waited for you, sweetheart.”

Anger fills my veins as bury my nose in her neck and inhale. Her hardened nibbles scrap against my chest as her back arches. I lift her chin slightly, wanting her to see the conviction in my eyes when I say this.

“You’re the air that I breathe. If you were to leave me, I’d die because the other half of my soul was missing.”

She gasps softly as I nibble and suck my way down her neck before taking one of her nipples into my mouth and biting down hard, pressing her petite frame into the door.

“You’re. My. Everything.” I accentuate each word as I thrust my hips forward and grind my cock into her belly.
