“Willow, you know I love you.” I reach across the table, gripping her hand with mine. “I just had other plans in mind for my birthday.”

“I’m sure you did.” She pulls her hand from beneath mine, crossing her arms. “Your birthday isn’t over yet.” She winks as she reaches into her pocket and glances at her phone. “Are you ready to get out of here? I’m gonna tell Blaine to make that drink to go so we can get back to your place.”

“Why are you in such a hurry?”

Willow waves me off as she goes in search of Blaine and our check. Wondering what made her switch gears so quickly, I head to the other side of the table and grab her bag. Just as I’m about to reach inside, her hand comes over my shoulder and snatches it from my grasp.

“Nosey much?” She throws her bag over her shoulder before threading her fingers through mine. “Let’s get out of here and head back to your place.”

“I don’t know why you’re in a rush to sit on my couch and watch movies. Another typical Friday night,” I respond glumly as I follow behind her toward the cash register.

“Don’t be like that! Trust me.” She winks as she slaps some cash down on the counter and pulls me out the door toward her car.

“I do. With every part of my being, but that’s also what scares me,” I chuckle weakly, climbing into the car.

Willow wastes no time turning the car on and making the ten-minute drive back to my dad’s house.

As soon as we pull into the driveway, Willow flies out of the car toward my front door.

“You didn’t shut off the car!” I shout out the window before turning the car off and grabbing the keys. “You’re acting like this is your surprise instead of mine.”

I climb out of the car, taking my time to head up the stairs toward my front door.

“Just open it!” Willow vibrates on her feet, pointing to the black envelope attached to my front door. My name is written in beautiful calligraphy on the front, underneath a beautiful logo.

What the hell is this?

“Club Sin,” I mumble, running my hand across the logo before reaching forward and pulling the envelope off the door.

“Open it. Open it. Open it,” she chants beside me before getting impatient and pulling the envelope out of my hands, ripping it open.

“That’s addressed to me!” I shout.

She spins out of my reach and begins reading the words on the card.

“Club Sin. Room nineteen. Seven o’clock p.m. Tonight,” Willow reads aloud, furrowing her brows and shoving the card into my hands. “That’s it? I can’t believe I had to go through all the cloak and dagger nonsense for a fucking note.”

My head snaps toward her. “What are you talking about?”

I look down at the card, reading it repeatedly, trying to figure out what this means. Do they want me? Are they wanting to do something special for my birthday? Are they finally ready to tell me their secret?

“Devon called me and said something about getting you out of the house so they could get things ready for your birthday. For a note! A damn note!” Willow throws her hands up in the air and begins pacing back and forth in front of me. “I mean, anything would have been better than just a note on your door.”

“You spoke to Devon.”

Willow stops dead in her tracks.

“You spoke to him, and didn’t think to mention it.”

“He said it was a secret.” Willow throws her arms around my neck. “I didn’t know they ghosted you, or I’d have told him to do it himself.”

I eye her skeptically, pulling my keys out of my bag and opening the door.

“Holy shit,” I say as my mind tries to take in the scene in front of me.

Every flat surface of the entryway is covered in mason jar vases filled with every color of roses you can find.

“This is better than a card,” Willow says as she brushes past me into the house and turning into the living room. “There are more in here! They’re everywhere.” She pops her head back around the corner. “I wonder if there are more in the kitchen.”
