“Well in that case… Want to hear something new I’ve been working on?”

“Of course.”

“But first…” His voice trails off as he scoots to the head of the bed and leans down to give me a deep kiss, sweet and long. I feel a shiver of desire run through my body. The kiss brings me back to last night’s romp and the sensation of Ben’s body against mine, him inside of me, him causing me to groan with pleasure.

Calm down, Lacy, I remind myself, squeezing my thighs together. Last night was unexpected in the best way possible. I’d been apprehensive about meeting Ben’s cool LA friends and hanging out in his slick rock’n’roll scene at first. Even his insanely cool penthouse had intimidated me. But last night felt surprisingly normal and natural.

Like I belonged here. Like we belonged together. The doubts and fears I’d had at first had faded away as the evening progressed.

“You want a coffee?” Ben asks as he pulls back from our kiss. “I’ll even bring it to you in bed,” he adds with a wink.

“What a gentleman,” I say with a grin. But I don’t want coffee yet. I want to savor this moment. “Coffee can wait. How about hearing that song you’re working on?”

“Well, I’m thinking of something like this. Let me know what you think,” he says as he starts strumming out a series of chords and humming along. Then he starts singing.

“I know the freckles on her face,

the curve of her waist,

the way that she smells.

But she knows me inside and out,

She knows what it’s all about…”

His voice trails off as he comes to a pause.

“I need help from that point on,” he says, shooting me a questioning look. “Ideally something that rhymes with about.”

“Hm, lout? Grout? Pout?”

“Yeah! Yeah, pout works. Something about her perfect pout.”

Ben stops to write something down in his notebook.

“Sounds like you’re giving John Mayer a run for his money with this one,” I say teasingly once he’s returned his attention to me. “I didn’t take you for the romantic crooner type.”

“Usually I’m not. But musicians are always reinventing themselves, right? I mean, the ones who stay around for years all have multiple eras. Pop era. Rock era. Crooner era.”

“So you’re ready for your romantic heartthrob era?”

“Oh yeah, watch out, John Mayer,” Ben says with a laugh. Then, without missing a beat, he starts into the opening chords ofYour Body Is a Wonderland.

“We got the afternoon,

You got this room for two,

One thing that’s left to do,

Discover me,

Discovering you.”

I lay back on the luxuriously fluffy pillows as Ben sings the familiar lyrics to me, his eyes on me and a slight smile playing at his lips. He plays through the whole song, his eyes never leaving my face. This is hands-down the most romantic and sexiest thing any guy has ever done for me.

“I thought you hated John Mayer’s music?” I ask teasingly when Ben has finished.

“Well, I know you like that song,” he replies with a shrug. “I thought a little serenade might win me some bonus points,” he adds as he puts the guitar gently down next to the bed and crawls toward me. He’s only wearing boxer briefs and nothing else, and I eagerly reach for him, my hands grazing over his bare skin as he lowers his body on top of mine.
