“Can you remove yourself from the group?”

“I have no idea.” He focused on his phone and said, “Nothing from Dad.” He walked away from Hannah, and she let him go.

She sent a quick text to Ginger, inquiring about Jess, and settled onto the couch.

Nothing yet, Ginger said. Are you staying in town tonight?

Yes, Hannah said.I’ll make sure I get the monthly reports done. I have my laptop, and I’ll bring the kids out tomorrow morning to get the files I need.

Thank you, Hannah.

She looked up from her phone, her thoughts moving through who else might need a text. It took all of her willpower not to text Luke every morning to let him know to have a good day. And every night to find out how his day had been.

She didn’t though, her thoughts landing on Spencer. He wasn’t happy at Hope Eternal either, and she wondered if he’d found another job.

Any luck on the job hunt?she sent to him.

She sent a quick message to Jill too, asking her how she felt. Hannah just needed to feel connected to someone, and she really hated evenings alone.

I have a job interview this weekend, Spencer said.I still haven’t said anything to Ginger, so please don’t mention it.

I won’t, Hannah promised.Where’s the interview?

Cooper & Co, Spencer said.

I’m good, Jill said. How are Remmy and Thomas?

Getting cleaned up, Hannah said to Jill. And guess what? I went fishing tonight and didn’t gag.

So proud!Jill sent with a winking face.

Hannah smiled, her mood lifted as her friends continued to text.

Before she knew it, she had to put her phone down to tuck the kids into bed, and then she went down the hall to the guest bedroom. The only escape she got from Luke came when she finally fell asleep.

Tonight, she lay in bed, wondering if she should make the drive to Beeville to see him. Maybe if they just stood face-to-face, he would remember how he felt about her. Maybe she could apologize, and he’d feel worthy of her attention. Hewasworthy of her attention. Maybe she could just text him and ask how things were going in Beeville, and if he was any closer to a solution to his situation.

She forced herself to roll away from her phone, but when it went off again, she had to reach for it.

Dallas had texted, and she sat up, her heartbeat throbbing through her veins again.Jonas Casey Dreyer has arrived finally. It was quite the struggle to make him come out, and Jess ended up having a C-section. She’s resting now while they monitor her blood loss. They’re bathing the baby, and then I’ll send pictures.

Hannah read the message once more, her stomach clenching at the thought of Jess having a C-section. She’d need a lot of help, and she wouldn’t be back on a horse any time soon. She’d be devastated about that, and Hannah sent her a quick text though she wouldn’t see it for a while.

Love you, Jess. I’m here for whatever you need.

She stayed sitting up in bed, because she didn’t want to miss the first picture of Jonas.

Her phone buzzed in her palm, and she looked down to see Nate’s message back to Dallas. She’s been put in a group chat just like Thomas, and more messages started to pile up.

When Luke’s name popped upon her screen, Hannah actually cried out audibly.

Congrats, Dallas and Jess! Can’t wait to see him.

Hannah’s pulse pounded now, and all thoughts of sleep fled.

Thankfully, a few minutes later, Dallas sent a picture of a cute, chubby baby with olive skin and lots and lots of dark hair, just like Jess.

Everyone on the string covered up Luke’s text, and he didn’t say anything else.

“Just like usual,” she muttered as she silenced her phone and replaced it on the nightstand.
