“How about I go use it and bring dinner to you?” His eyes lit up, as though he was eager to serve.

I smiled at him, my post orgasmic bliss stealing over me and making me drowsy. “Yes, please.”

“I’ll be right back.”

I lay back in bed and closed my eyes, the whole night replaying inside my head. Once again, sex with Lucian felt like a dream.

I still couldn’t believe that he’d picked me up and carried me to the bedroom. The attentive way he’d worshiped my body had been truly beautiful, and the fact that he wanted to bring me dinner in bed was surreal. It all felt too good to be true.

But it was all real. My life wasn’t just a fantasy playing out in my mind. Finally, I had the chance for a solid relationship that would go the distance.

My hand crept down and pressed against my flat stomach.

I also had a chance to have the family I’d always wished for. With my child, I’d have a deep connection. I wouldn’t be distant like my parents were with me when I was younger. My child would be close with aunts, and siblings who may follow.

So much potential for happiness, and all of it within my grasp. At last, life was finally turning around.

Chapter 10.

LUCIAN

I should have been living in my happily ever after.

Katerina was mine at last, and she was willing to give me a chance to show her my love and commitment. From there, we should have been planning a wedding and making her homeourhome. I should have finally been at peace.

Unfortunately, that peace didn’t last. We spent the first week engrossed in each other. While she left for work during the day, I tidied up the house and repaired any broken items in her home. Her dripping kitchen sink, and the toilet that ran unless the handle was jiggled. All while cooking and tending to her basic needs, so that our evenings could be spent in bed.

Making love to her was the highlight of my day. She was luscious and generous. So fucking beautiful.

Over the two days she called the weekend, we went on a date in town, and I got to see more of her neighborhood. None of it felt like home, and the way the humans lived was strange.

I wasn’t sure how they felt purpose in their lives, or contentment. But I was willing to learn.

On Monday morning, some of the glow began to fade.

“Are you sure you want to stay home alone all day?” Katerina asked while she was picking up her keys to leave for work once more.

I nodded, that tight feeling in my gut returning at the reminder of how out of place I was. “Where else can I go? I can’t watch you work.”

“No, I guess not,” she mumbled. “That’d be a distraction. For me and the kids.” She paused. “But you can meet them at the school social Friday.”

“I’d like that.” I wanted to watch her with her students and get a taste of what she did all day without me.

“Great!” Her eyes lit up with excitement. “What are you going to do all day while I’m gone?”
