His gaze never left me, and I watched it wander over my body more than once. “Everything is perfect. Now, I mean. It was a personal problem that needed attending to.”

“Sounds like you found the resolution to your problem then,” I said. “I’m glad. I noticed you were missing.”

“You did?” He seemed surprised.

I nodded. “I’d only seen you for a second, but I put two and two together. Something was up.”

“You’re observant,” he said. “And kindhearted.”

I felt the blush return to my face. “When I want to be.”

“May I always inspire you to keep being so,” he murmured. He cleared his throat. “Are you enjoying your time in my half-brother’s castle?”

“How could I not? It’s a castle!”

I cleared my plate a lot faster than was probably lady-like, but Lucian seemed to be on pace right along with me. Almost like we both wanted to get to the action.

“Ready to dance?” I asked. “Feel replenished?”

“Very much so.” He offered his hand to me, and the second our fingers touched, an electric shock ran through my body.

Then his arm was around my waist, and he was leading me through a waltz as a slow song conveniently started playing. My hips and chest pressed against his. God...I had no resistance left in me.

“Confession,” I said softly, just barely loud enough for him to hear over the music. “These aren’t actually new shoes. You just...have a way of making me forget how to function.”

He leaned his mouth to my ear. “I’m relieved. I was worried I’d scared you off, or that you thought I was disgusting.”

“No woman in her right mind would think you’re disgusting.” I giggled.

“You’d be surprised.” He pressed his cheek against mine. “But I don’t care about what other women think. You’re the only one whose opinion matters.”

My heart began to beat faster and my whole body grew hot. “You’re still talking about me, right? I’m not being punked, am I?”

“I don’t know what that means, but yes, this is a two-person conversation. No one else is around. It’s only us.” He took in a heavy breath. “I’d love to kiss you. Would that put your mind at ease?”

“It certainly wouldn’t hurt,” I managed.

Someone pinch me, because I have to be dreaming!

Then his lips were against mine, firm and sweet. A kiss that started out chaste and pure quickly morphed into more. I opened my mouth and teased his tongue with mine. Only a small taste of what I wanted to give him. Passion pulsed through me, hot and insistent. I had to have him, logic be damned.

“I have a room,” he said, his voice rough with need.

I nodded, growing wet just thinking about it. “Lead the way.”

He took me by the hand and led me from the grand ballroom. I glanced around to see if my sisters were still watching, wondering what they’d think if they caught me. Sarah was too busy with her new husband, and Nadia was nowhere nearby. I giggled. They’d lose their minds once I told them. A one-night stand was the last thing anyone expected fromme. I’d always been into feeling secure with a commitment before taking things to such a level of intimacy.

But Lucian felt different. I might never get a chance with such a god of a man again. Seriously, it wasn’t every day someone so incredibly sexy wantedme. If I declined his invitation, I knew I’d regret it.

He led me up the stairs, stopping halfway up to push me up against the wall and claim another kiss. I was more than happy to oblige him. His lips were warm, his arms were strong. Tingles flooded my body. We couldn’t get to his bedroom fast enough as far as I was concerned.

We hit a landing and started running down the hallway. I picked up my dress and laughed at his enthusiasm. We stopped outside a room, he opened the door, then tugged me inside.

As soon as the door was closed, I was pushing off his suit jacket. His hands moved to slide the straps of my dress down, and in seconds he had the zipper at the back moving as well.

This guy was an expert at undressing women, that was for sure.

I ripped open his button-down shirt, buttons popping off and rolling onto the floor. Underneath that fabric was a body made for a billboard. His abdomen was so defined, it could have been made of stone. It had to be. There was no way a human man could be so chiseled and rock hard. And that wasn’t the only thing rock hard.
