I study her smooth white neck, the gentle rise and fall of her breasts through her blouse and my dick gets so hard I want to erupt.

I can’t take much more of this…

Suddenly, she lurches forward with a look of anguish on her face. “Make it stop!” she shouts. “Make it stop, make it stop!” It sounds as if she was having some sort of nightmare.

“Enough!” I boom. I snap my fingers in her face. “Now hold for the count of five, four, three, two, one. And now you’re awake.”

Carly opens her eyes and stares at me like she’s never seen me before. Her face is white as a sheet.

Jesus, what the hell just happened?

“It’s not real,” she murmurs. “It’s all in the past… the past.”

“Are you okay?” I ask worriedly. “You seem a little disorientated.”

She looks up at me. “I-I’m fine. Wow, that was pretty intense.” She tries to smile but I can sense that she’s hiding something.

“What happened while you were in trance?” I probe. “What did you see?”

She tells me again about the green fields and the hot air balloon, but I know it’s just a ruse. There’s plenty she’s not telling me.

“Is that definitely all you saw?”

She nods, smiling. “There’s nothing else. Only what I told you—the field, the hot air balloon, and that’s it.”

I shake my head.We both know there’s a lot more, and I intend to find out what. But now is not the time. I need to handle this as delicately as possible.

Feigning nonchalance, I glance at my watch. “Right, that’s about it for today. You’ve done very well, Carly. I think we’re making real progress, and I feel privileged to be working with someone of your caliber. Your response to me has been phenomenal. ”

She blushes and thanks me. Emotion flickers in her eyes as she fiddles with her collar. “Listen, Nick…” She breaks off, her blush deepening. My God, she’s gorgeous.“What are you doing tomorrow night?”

I play it coy. “Nothing. Why?”

“I just wondered…” She can’t meet my gaze.Sweet Jesus, she’s so fucking adorable.“Well, you see, it’s like this: my friend was supposed to come to the theatre, but she’s cancelled at the last minute, so I have this spare ticket going. I was wondering… I was wondering if you’d like to come?”

My heart almost stops beating. Is Carly asking me out on a date? For a second, I’m so overcome I can barely speak.

There’s a tense silence. She looks at the floor. “Of course, if it’s against protocol, I understand. I know I’m your patient and that you might not want—”

“Carly, I’dloveto,” I grin.

“What did you say?”

“I said yes. What time and where?”

Her whole face lights up. “Oh, my gosh! Okay, well, the show starts at seven-thirty. It’s at the Arts Theatre near Leicester Square, and the show’s calledGhost Stories.I don’t know much about it, but the poster looks good.”

“Sounds great. Would you like us to meet beforehand, maybe go for a coffee or something?”

“That would be wonderful! Shall we say six o’clock tomorrow at Leicester Square station, Cambridge Circus exit?”

I flash a broad smile. “Perfect. I’ll be there.”

We say our goodbyes and as I close the door, I can barely believe what just happened. Carly asked me out on a date. She wants me! My God, she wants me.

I’m shaking so much I need to sit down.

Closing my eyes, I take out her scarf and breathe in her glorious aroma. The wool feels soft and silky against my cheek.
