My God. I think I am in love.

Breathing heavily, I slip the condom off my throbbing penis. Carefully, I take it to the bathroom to dispose of it. When I return to the bedroom, I find Carly collapsed against the wardrobe. Gently, I take her hand and help her back to her feet. Her face is flushed and dripping with sweat.

Silently, I examine the cut on her shoulder.

“You’re bleeding,” I say somberly.

She turns and looks at the graze. “Oops! That doesn’t look too good,” she laughs.

“I’ll get you some cloths from the bathroom.” Hurriedly, I race to the bathroom in search of a flannel. This is an emergency. I need to get that blood cleaned up before I do something stupid.

“I’m sorry I hurt you,” I say, wiping down her shoulder. “I got carried away and didn’t mean to be so rough. Will you forgive me?”

Carly grins wickedly. “Nick, there’s nothing to forgive. I loved every minute of it.” She hesitates. “But what are we going to do about the wardrobe? I don’t think the hotel will be too pleased when they see what we’ve done. That furniture must cost a fortune to replace.”

“Don’t worry. The manager is an old friend of mine. I’ll write him a cheque, and that will be the end of it.”

“Are you sure?”

“Yes. Now please, stop worrying.”

She falls silent.

When she’s finally stopped bleeding, I look her over very carefully from head to foot. Then, gently, I take her hand and kiss her fingers, warming them with my lips. I can tell she likes that. Keeping my eyes on her, I place her middle finger in my mouth and suck on it deeply.

Carly shuts her eyes in rapture.

“Are you sure you’re okay?” I whisper.

“Yes,” she grins. “I’ve never felt better.”

My stomach clenches.I’m really starting to fall for this woman.

Gripping her waist tightly, I pull her back to the bed, throw back the duvet and guide her in. Plumping up the pillows, I make her comfortable, switch off the lamp and plunge the room into darkness. With a loving smile, I wrap my arms around her and drift into a deep, dreamless sleep.

I’ve never felt so at peace.

The next morning, I take a long hot shower while Carly eats breakfast in bed. When I’ve finished dressing, I find it hard to meet her gaze, knowing that soon we’ll have to say goodbye. This is the painful part. The thought of leaving her makes me feel physically sick, but what choice do I have? I’m a vampire with a very complicated life and a million and one skeletons in the closet. I need to think long and hard about where Carly fits into it all before I make any definite commitments to her.

“So, what have you got planned for today?” Carly asks, eyeing me intently.

“I have a meeting with a client at one o’clock,” I lie. “When we leave here, I’ll be going straight to Shepherd’s Bush.”

“Oh.” She looks so disappointed my heart bleeds for her. I hate treating her like this but feel I have no choice. I need some time to reflect on everything and get my head together.

Adjusting my cufflinks, I ask her what she’s doing for the rest of the day.

“Oh, I’ll probably just go home,” she replies weakly. “I’ve got lots to do, plus I don’t fancy walking around West End in the same clothes from yesterday.”

I force a laugh. “That’s true. Pity me then. I’ve got to get through a whole meeting before I can go home and get changed.”

“Where do you live?”

“Pimlico.”

“Very posh.”

“Oh, not really. The best thing about it is the transport links. It’s a doddle for me to get to work in the mornings.”
