He watched her daughters go through the sliding doors, and then he said, “Well, we better hurry up.I wouldn’t put it past Sariah to leave us here without a ride.”

Cass narrowed her eyes in the direction her children had gone.“You’re probably right.”Her expression cleared quickly, and she darted in front of him as he started to walk.“What if we just…run away?”She put both hands flat against his chest.“I can rent a car.And we’ll just drive…south.Go to the beach.Find a cute bed and breakfast that serves the best food in Texas.”She smiled at him, though her dark eyes only harbored anxiety and pain.“Just me and you.”

“Yes, you can,” he said, giving her an encouraging smile.“Because I’m here now, and you’re not doing it alone.”

New fire lit her eyes, and she tipped up and kissed him again.Harrison could honestly do that for a good long while, but Cass broke the kiss after only a few strokes.“Okay.”She tugged her white-as-driven-snow blouse down and faced the exit.“Okay, we can do this.”

Harrison went with her, not quite sure what “this” was, but willing to do anything Cass needed him to do.
