Camilla gave her a sly smile. “Oh, come on, Adi. Don’t pull that shit on me. I know you’re practically running back because you’ve got the hots for Hot Firefighter Guy.”

“His name is Jack, and no, I don’t have the hots for him.”

She had no business in flirting with Jack while their friends were still out there fighting for their lives. At least, she hoped that they were still alive. Adela rubbed the pain away in her chest.

Camilla snorted unladylike. “Riiight. In that case, you’ll not mind if I team up with Jack tomorrow?”

Adela furrowed her brows. “I know what you’re doing and I’m not taking the bait. Besides, it’s not like grand master Dom would let you go anywhere without him…”

Camilla cackled. “Ah! You’ve noticed that too, eh? I don’t know where he comes off, thinking that he can boss me—”

“I don’t only think I can, IknowI can, darlin’.”

Camilla gulped at hearing Dominic’s deep voice behind her.

“Good luck with that,” Adela said with a smirk before she turned on her heels and walked back to the fire. It served Camilla right for yanking her chain about Jack. Besides, Camilla had been flirting all night with Dominic, so she’d laid her bed and now had to lie in it for all she cared.

Adela shot one last glance at Camilla just in case, but Camilla waved her away, indicating she could handle Dominic. Adela had no doubt about it.

“Hey. You’re all right?” Rodrigo said while meeting her halfway on her way to the fire.

She took in Rodrigo’s long, dark hair and decided he was the first man she actually found attractive with long hair. Even though Gabriel and Rodrigo had been less outgoing than their friends, at least Gabriel went out of his way to make them feel at ease. Rodrigo, on the other hand, unnerved her with his piercing eyes as he silently took everyone in around the fire.

She felt like Jack sat smack dab in the middle between the calm twins and the outgoing Reed and Zane. There was obviously a soft side to Jack, as he’d comforted her after talking about their missing friends. She also appreciated how Jack didn’t put up with any shit from his friends, setting them straight with quick banter.

On any other day, she would never let a guy she’d just met hold her hand. Maybe surviving on this island already shifted something inside of her. Or maybe it was just Jack and his inescapable presence.

She suddenly remembered Rodrigo asking her a question. “I’m fine, thanks. And you?”

Rodrigo’s pearly whites shone in the moonlight. She eyed the sexy scar running through his left brow before taking in several tattoos adorning his arms that made him look like a badass version of Gabriel.

“I’m fine,guapa.”

A clearing of a throat behind them had Adela jump on her spot.

Without looking behind him who was out there, Rodrigo smirked and said, “Don’t worry, Jack. I’m not stepping foot on your turf.”

Adela rolled her eyes. She’d heard tonight about the guys being friends since middle school, and maybe because she’d never experienced friendship before meeting Camilla, Raven, Liv and Hailey in college, she didn’t understand the workings between them all.

This night had been exhausting on top of an already grueling day after surviving a shipwreck.

“I’m going to get some sleep.”

Adela stomped over to the fire but decided against sitting next to Reed and Zane. She had nothing against them per se, but she’d rather not sleep next to them. She wouldn’t put it against the two jokers of the group to pull a prank on her in the middle of the night, like scribbling a mustache on her face or putting her hand in lukewarm water.

Adela sat down a bit further away from the fire.

“You’re going to catch some z’s?” Gabriel asked from across the fire.

“Yes.”

“Why don’t you go on and sleep in the raft? I’ll bet you’ll sleep better in there without the sand fleas creeping up on you,” Gabriel said.

Although all the guys had been nice and she felt at ease sitting around the fire with them, she didn’t want to separate herself from Camilla. She wished she would come back soon.

“I’m okay here, but thanks for the offer.”

“No problem. Goodnight,guapa.”
