Adela tried to put on a brave face before turning around and face the guys, but she already felt like crying. She couldn’t believe that she now even had to miss Camilla.

“Okay, Adi—may I call you Adi?” Zane asked.

She nodded.

“Great. Today is your lucky day.”

His enthusiasm brought out a watery smile from her. “It is?”

“Yep. You’re teamed up with the party squad within our group.”

She pulled a brow, checking Jack’s reaction to Zane’s statement.

Jack held up both hands in response. “Hey, I just tag along with these two jokers. Anyway, shall we head out?”

“Yes. See you later, party crew,” she said, trying for a joke.

“It’s partysquad, sugar,” Reed said with a wink.

His contagious playfulness made her stick out her tongue.

Jack suddenly held her jaw in his hand and curled his tongue around hers while his friends whistled and hooted.

He pulled back, his eyes watching her intently. “Save that sexy pink tongue for me—and only me.”

She felt a nervous giggle coming up. Adela slid her fingers into his hair instead of hiding her smile. It was just another sign that Jack dragged her out of her shell.

“You guys make me barf,” Reed said jokingly.

“Me too,” Zane added.

“Normally, I would tell you to get a room, but in this case, why don’t you two go grab the nearest palm tree?” Reed said with a chuckle.

Her uneasiness did not surprise Adela, but Jack didn’t seem to mind his friends giving them a hard time, since he smiled at her.

He swept his thumb over her bottom lip and said, “Let those fuckers talk, Adi. They’re just jealous.”

“Damn right, I am. I hope Camilla comes back with your friends, Adi. Maybe then Zane and I can have a taste of a little island romance, too.”

Adela pictured Raven, Liv or Hailey with Reed, the star quarterback with a mouth as big as his ego. She had the feeling his heart was just as big, as he joked around just to make her feel better after her emotional goodbye with Camilla.

Liv wouldn’t give Reed the time of day since she’d been head over heels for her on-again-off-again boyfriend, Talon, ever since she’d met him at a party three years ago.

Adela questioned if Raven would be a great fit for Reed, since she could see them butting heads as they had both strong personalities. Come to think of it, Hailey already has a track record of falling for playboy quarterbacks and swore never to fall for a playboy ever again.

Hailey had the best banter out of them all, though. She could give Reed a run for his money. God, how she missed her friends.

“Perhaps not for the same reason as you, but I also hope we find my friends,” she said with a sad smile.

Reed pulled her in by her shoulder, but Jack still held his arm around her waist, not letting her go from their strange three-way hug.

Zane slung an arm over Reed’s shoulder and one over Jack’s, smiling a mile wide. “I’m not staying out of this huddle, guys.”

A weird sense of being part of a group took over as she stood in the middle of their little huddle with these big, brawny guys.

“Let me make use of this special moment to give Adi the official stamp of approval of the party squad,” Zane said.

She glanced over at Jack, the look on his face serious even though Zane’s comment was meant in good fun. Or maybe she’d missed something? Jack clearly valued his friend’s opinion, giving Zane a meaningful nod.
