Jack grabbed Adela’s hand and linked their fingers before he brought her hand to his lips.

“That’s right, sweetheart. Except with the other two, we’ll do it as a team.”

Adela squeezed his hand. “Right. A team.”

CHAPTER TWENTY-ONE

Adela and Jackclimbed over the big rock at their beach, both instantly halting their steps at the sight of two brand new, smaller huts standing fifteen feet apart from each other.

“What the fuck?” Zane said. Somewhere during their trek through the jungle, Zane had maneuvered Hailey, so he carried her bridal style.

Adela eyed Hailey, who had her eyes closed and her face scrunched, moaning like she was in pain.

“I call dibs on this hut,” Zane said before he walked to the first best hut he could reach.

Before Adela or Jack could say anything in return, Zane added, “I’m taking Hailey with me so she can rest without the rest of the group hovering over her.”

Adela tilted her head as she scrutinized Zane. “I don’t know if I like that idea. Camilla and I can take—”

“No…” Hailey moaned.

“What is it, honey?” Zane asked her.

“I want to stay in this hut and not around people right now. I know I’ll be fine if Zane doesn’t mind watching over me the first couple of days?”

“What in the hell?” Reed said as he stuck out his head from the other small hut.

When he saw Adela, he jumped outside and headed straight over to her.

“Look who has decided to show up?” Reed spat with his eyes narrowed into slits.

Adela swallowed her dry throat. She knew she’d been selfish in pushing everyone away by going out on her own. She’d acted like her father today—just the person she’d never thought in a million years she would ever resemble.

“I’m so sorry, Reed. It was stupid and selfish of me to go out alone.”

“Damn straight. It was a shitty thing to do.”

Hailey had opened her eyes in the meantime, taking in their quarrel.

“Leave my girl alone. If it weren’t for her, I would be dead by now,” Hailey said, her voice soft, but Reed had definitely heard her. He swirled on his feet as he took in the blonde in Zane’s arms.

Zane clenched his jaw, staring Reed down as if he tried to scare him away from Hailey.

“Wow…” Reed said under his breath.

Reed looked from Hailey to Adela and back to Hailey again.

“Help me out here, sis. Is this Fiery, Already Taken or Female Reed?”

Adela smiled after he’d called her sis again.

“Female Reed? Let me guess, you’re Reed?” Hailey said with a snort.

Zane held Hailey tighter in his arms while she stared at Reed.

Adela was thankful that Jack tried to break the awkward tension and said, “I guess the rest made some progress today in building us all separate huts?”

Reed tore his eyes away from Hailey and said, “Yep. I insisted on a location further away from the original hut since I had enough of Dominic’s grunts and Camilla’s moans.”
