Conner leaned in and said in a low, fake voice, “Are you also hot, plate?”

They all laughed, but Errin shook her head. She glanced at Calum and he said, “Want to lick me clean?”

“Eww, that’s disgusting Cal!” Errin shouted.

Calum winked at Cait and she bumped her hip into his while laughing along with the rest of them.

“Cait?”

“Uhm, I have no idea. Er…” she shot a look at Calum, but he wasn’t helping at all as he gave her a lopsided grin, getting her even more flustered.

Errin revealed the answer before they would arrive at their floor. “Dinner is on me.”

She laughed the loudest at her own joke, which happened a lot. The doors of the elevator opened, and they stepped into the hallway. Errin hopped on her crutches in front of the others and as she placed her key in the door, she said goodnight to Calum and Cait.

A muffled reply escaped Cait. Errin glanced over her shoulder to see that her brother had Cait backed up to the door to her apartment and was pretty well chewing her face off.

“Why is ‘drool’ the most favorite word of all time?” Conner boomed across the hallway.

Errin poked him in the side, but he shrugged her off.

“Because it just rolls off the tongue.”

When no one responded, Errin opened the door and entered her narrow hallway. She shook her head at Conner, who still was laughing behind her. He took his coat off to hang on the rack.

“He’s a goner. As soon as Kate moves in with Donovan, you’ve got yourself a new roommate.” He snickered.

What? Kate’s moving out? Calum moving in? Oh, hell no!Errin swirled around in her sensible sneakers, forgetting to keep her balance on her crutches, and cried out in pain.

“Fuck. Come here, Bunny.” Conner picked her up in his sturdy arms, grabbing both crutches in one hand. He walked them over to the pink worn sofa and let her crutches crash to the floor. They sat down on the couch and he handed her the gray fleece blanket from the back of the couch.

“Okay. Time to spill it. What the fuck is going on here?” He used his serious big brother tone.

“There is nothing—” she pulled the blanket over her outstretched legs.

“Hmm-mm. Right,” Conner drawled.

“Nothing to spill, really. I was drunk off my ass last night. You know I can’t drink like the rest of you. Those tequila shots floored me. As I’ve texted you and every other overbearing Walsh brother—”

“Whatever,” he said, rolling his eyes at his sister.

“That I would spend the night over at Brennan’s. So I woke up in the middle of the night, got up from his bed and—”

“Wait a minute.” Conner held up his hand to interrupt. “You slept with him?”

“No, I didn’t sleep with Broody Brennan!” she all but shouted at her brother.

“Broody Brennan?” he snorted with his brows pulled together.

“Yeah, well… he’s kinda mysterious and…. Stop looking at me like that.” She ducked her head and rubbed an imaginary piece of dust from her blanket.

“What? You’ve never—everdescribed a guy being ‘mysterious’ before.” He smirked and tilted his head.

“Well, that ain’t right. I’ve been with a lot of mysterious guys before.” She looked him straight into his light blue eyes. The exact same color she saw everyday staring back at her in the mirror while doing her make-up.

They had the same eyes. Same wavy, warm blonde hair. People guessed they were twins, even though they were several years apart.

“Nah, you can try to irritate me but I’m sticking on this subject, Bunny. Now, tell me what happened. Why are you so secretive? Just spill the beans. It isn’t like you to hold your tongue—about anything.”
