“Single,” she said.

He sighed and didn’t respond. Fuck this stupid joke. She wanted to lighten the mood, but all it did was anger him. His nostrils flared at the thought of what came next after ‘single who?’.

“Sorry,” she whispered, “You’re right. It’s no joking matter. Come, we’re going back to your place.”

“You sure?” he shifted in his seat, already wanting to take her with him. She gave a curt nod before she leaned in and gave him a sweet kiss.

Don and Kate apparently had left already, and Kayla and Duncan were in the middle of saying their goodbyes. “I see you tomorrow, sis,” Kayla said.

“Yes. See you at seven at Lucky’s,” Errin said as Kayla kissed her cheek. Brennan had offered to take Errin to the airport, but she wanted her sisters to bring her so they could have dinner together one last time before she left.

Errin stood from the table and said goodbye to Keenan, Aiden, Fianna and Emmy. After the obligatory “Good luck in Jersey” and “Call me when you’re at Conner’s,” she took a dramatic bow like she just finished a show on stage and waved once more before turning her back to the booth.

Errin looked up at him as he took her hand. “What? There’s only one first impression, but people often forget the last impression. Can’t say this was leaving with a bang, but I’m not one to sneak out of the backdoor either.” She gave him another devastating smile. Making his chest hurt.

They were on their way to the exit when they saw Bree and Declan sitting together at the bar. Dec leaned in and kissed Bree behind her ear.

“What do they put in these drinks at this joint? Everyone is acting all out of character tonight,” Errin said, glancing over Brennan’s shoulder at Declan. Brennan looked over and sure enough, Dec had his hand at the back of Bree’s head and pulled her in for a kiss. Bree placed her hand on Dec’s chest but didn’t push him away.

“Get it, G.I. Joe,” Ronan cheered his twin on by using his nickname.

Both Bree and Declan didn’t respond, instead they deepened the kiss.

“Fuck. That’s hot. Wanna go out of this place, Fi?” Ro threw out casually.

“In your dreams, asshole,” Fianna responded while walking away from the bar with her drinks in hand.

Since the bar was right next door, Brennan and Errin walked into his apartment mere minutes later.

Errin had said nothing as they walked into the ravaged pub or as they stomped up the steps to his apartment. She didn’t even cat-call when Dec was making out with Bree. And the awkward situation with Fianna and Ronan didn’t get one joke out of her.

She walked into his kitchen and poured him a glass of milk and water for herself. His lip turned up as she’d remembered his habit of drinking milk before bed to calm his stomach.

They drank in silence with her leaning against the kitchen counter and him opposite of her against the kitchen table. Errin took a slight step and wrapped her arms around his waist to hug him close.

“You’re making my shirt wet, baby girl,” he said, his voice soft.

“Huh?” she backed away and inspected the tearstains. She tried to step away from him, but he took her hand and led her to the couch.

“You kick some Yankee arse, ye hear?” he said after they sat down next to each other. He wished it didn’t need to end. But he was certain she’d regret it forever if she stayed for him. She stared at the bookshelves in front of them and didn’t respond, as she was lost in her thoughts.

After a minute she wiped a stubborn tear from her cheek, righted her shoulders and said, “Okay, that’s enough.”

She walked over to his sound system and searched for something on her phone. After connecting the devices, she found what she was looking for and walked out of the living room.

She said over her shoulder, “I’ll be just a minute. I promised you a surprise, remember?”

He smiled at her tactics to lighten this fuckin’ shit mood. After five minutes of waiting on the couch, she shouted from his bedroom, “Okay. Bren, can you take a chair from the kitchen and sit on it in the living room, facing me?”

He took a condom from his wallet and put it in his front pocket of his jeans. Best to be prepared around Errin. He did as she asked and picked up a chair from the kitchen. The moment he sat down in the living room, he shouted, “Okay, done. I’m ready for you.”

“Pssht. That’s what you think.” Errin came around the corner on the first tunes of‘New York, New York’by Frank Sinatra. She had her outfit down to a tee.

She’d tucked her wavy blonde hair under the typical old fashion man’s hat. A slim tailor-made-suit covered her body. Well, her upper body at least.

The jacket of the black suit fitted her tiny waist and even gave her a small cleavage. Garter straps framed her firm arse, and she’d put on a lacy black thong. But her legs were bare. She sashayed over to him in the same sexy black heels she enticed him with earlier tonight.

“Yer right, Lips. I was nowhere near ready for this,” he said before licking his dry lips.
