She wiped a tear from her cheek as she scrutinized herself in the elevator mirror. There must be something wrong with her because the fact that Ronan already pulled up her dress to take her right then and there made her crave him even more. How stupid.

“I’m screwed, Ker. I… I ran into Ro.”

The elevator opened, and she walked outside in a direct line to a row of cabs in front of the building. She held her step for a moment, listening to the other end of the line.

“Come over. Gwenn is home and we’ve just opened up some wine…” Kera said.

Fianna loved her youngest sister Gwenn. Maybe because their outspoken characters resembled each other the most, they also butted heads more than she ever did with her other four sisters.

She certainly didn’t need to talk about her ex with Gwenn. Her sister worked with Ronan and had always been a prime member of the ‘let’s-get-Fi-and-Ro-back-together-bandwagon’.

“Nah. That’s okay, Ker. I’ll just head home and call you later.”

Before Kera could respond, she’d already hung up on her. With her eyes glued to her phone, typing to Kera that she would call her later and to Mae and Emmy that she would catch a cab, she sensed him.

Except with her horse Stormchaser, she’d never felt so in touch with anyone’s being. Ronan held still before her and waited her out. Because it was so unusual for him to not open his big mouth, she gave in and finally met his stare.

“I’m sorry.”

She questioned if he’d meant for all the times they’d hurt each other in the past. He’d never said he was sorry before.

She wanted to reach out and swipe a strand of hair from his forehead, but she let her hand drop midway. He caught her wrist and pulled her closer. His unique scent wafted over her and she closed her eyes while taking her fill.

His hot breath against her ear gave her goose bumps as he said, “I’ve been an arsehole, Red.”

She whispered, “Yes.”

His hand curled around her waist. He kissed the corner of her mouth and said, “I’ve missed you so fuckin’ much.”

She leaned back and searched for the truth in his light green eyes. It had been years since they’d been up close like this.

She opened her mouth to respond but then a slender woman with long, auburn hair appeared next to Ronan and said, “I thought you were buying me a drink, Ronan?”

Finding Ronan in an embrace with Fianna didn’t seem to bother the woman too much as she smiled at Fianna. After swallowing down the bile in her throat, Fianna did her best to offer the woman a meek smile.

“Eh, yeah. I have to go…”

She tried to take a step back from Ronan who didn’t let go of her waist. She shot him a look, pleading him to let go. After a nod, his fingers slowly uncurled from her side and she took off.

“Wait!”

She didn’t respond and without even a word of goodbye, she jumped into the first cab in line and rattled off her address. After the cab rounded the corner, her phone pinged.

RONAN: This is not over

Her fingers worked her screen vigorously.

FIANNA: Stop messing with my head.

His response came immediately, and she pictured him still standing on the sidewalk with that gorgeous woman next to his side while he was texting her.

RONAN: I’m never giving up on us

She bristled. How dare he’d even say that?

FIANNA: Who are you kidding?

FIANNA: You’ve fucked half of Austin
