“Wow. Well, I, for one, would like to get to know the guy. I always wanted to have a brother and now I’ve got three of them.”

Fianna figured Gwenn would feel that way. “Even though he’s a criminal?”

Gwenn’s wistful expression morphed into something dark. The twinkle in her eye disappeared and without blinking she said, “Fi… I’ve done some really fucked up shit in the desert, too. Don’t forget that you’re sitting here, having a glass of wine with a killer.”

Fianna gasped and clutched her chest with her hand. “Don’t say that! You did what you needed to do to survive. You served our country.”

A humorless laugh escaped Gwenn’s lips. “Well, yeah. That’s one way of putting it. I never told you all the details of what happened. And I never will. I’m only telling you this because you shouldn’t be so quick to judge.”

She knew her youngest sister had rightfully put her in her place. It was indeed one of her many faults. She had always been quick to judge and ready to cut people out of her lives. She had done nothing different in her on-again-off-again relationship with Ronan.

Perhaps she should give him a chance to explain himself instead of jumping to conclusions.

“You know what? You’re right, sis. Thank you for being honest with me.”

Gwenn wasn’t fast enough to hide her surprise. “Did I just hear you right?”

Fianna stuck out her tongue and said, “Oh, stop it. What are we watching before Ro gets here?”

Ronan

Ronan peered out of the front shield of his truck, looking for any sign of Gwenn returning from her bathroom break.

Their latest case of finding evidence of foul play in an insurance matter was a complete bust. They had been staking out for the past six hours, but nothing noteworthy had happened today.

Gwenn stepped out of the restaurant in a small town twenty miles from Austin. Her eyes scanned the streets, every corner and every rooftop, before she walked up to Ronan’s truck. Even though she talked to someone on the phone, he knew she would never forget to check her surroundings.

She hung up the phone before getting into his truck. “Okay, Don has a hot lead about Stabby Hanky.”

Ronan snorted at Gwenn’s latest nickname for the man that had stabbed him months ago.

Gwenn grabbed Ronan’s phone and inserted an address, and she activated the navigation app on his phone.

“Are we really doing this now?” Ronan hesitated since he had a talk with Fianna last night after he’d picked her up from Gwenn’s place.

She seemed to be a bit more understanding after her talk with Gwenn. But that didn’t mean she would appreciate him going after Hank on a wild goose chase.

“Yes, now. Geez…” Gwenn said.

Ronan drove them over a winding, deserted, dusty road. It took him twenty minutes before a fenced up warehouse popped up in the middle of nowhere. He also hadn’t missed the IVMC guys coming their way on their hogs on an off-road path behind some trees and dense foliage.

“Five o’clock,” he said, just to let Gwenn know he’d seen them too. He was sure she hadn’t missed them.

She gave him a nod before he sped up. He felt the energy shift in the truck and knew Gwenn was about to flip her switch. She could be joking and rambling one moment and lay down a sucker in the next.

He parked his truck next to the fenced off entrance to the brickstone warehouse when he heard the rumble of several bikes behind them.

Gwenn was out of the truck in the blink of an eye, and Ronan followed suit. When he held still next to her, he said under his breath, “We’re only here to scope out the place, remember? Just so we know if Hank has been here. We’re not here for a pissing match with the MC.”

“Oh, hush. We all know women can’t win in a pissing match. It’s only because we don’t have a hose to put our piss further.”

Ronan heard a few snickers coming from the group of bikers, whom he recognized as Iron Vikings members.

“But I do know that if I did have had a dick, I would have the biggest one around. With the ugliest, hairiest and heaviest set of balls…”

Ronan couldn’t help but laugh at her description of her imaginary junk.
