Gwenn blinked like she had just passed out and Fianna shouted, “Gwenn! Kick his balls!”

Fianna tried to wring the man’s neck, but he was too strong for her. He almost threw her off him, but she hung on to his neck just in time.

“Gwenn! Kick him! Now!”

Gwenn groaned, but she did finally pull up her knee, connecting with the man’s groin. The pain in his balls must have distracted him enough, because Fianna could finally push the man from Gwenn. The man rolled to his side as he gripped his junk. “Aaaah. Stupid bitch!”

Fianna pulled Gwenn up by her hands. “Let’s go!”

Fianna watched over her shoulder how the man slipped in the pool of his friends’ blood when he tried to come after them. She put her arm around Gwenn’s waist and ushered her outside. The right-hand side wasn’t an option since it was an open asphalted space.

She directed Gwenn to the tall grass, where they would be out of sight.

At least for the moment.

The grass came up to their waists the further they got into the field. If they crouched, they’d have a chance that creep would overlook them. But first, she needed to push Gwenn a little more, so they were further away from that building that looked like some kind of warehouse.

“Come, Gwenn. I know you can do this. Hang on to me.”

Gwenn groaned again before she said, “I feel dizzy, Fi. I don’t know if I can…”

“Ssh…” Fianna held her finger to her lips.

She thought she heard the rumbles of bikes coming their way. Hope flared in her chest because it could mean help was on its way. But then she remembered that both of the men that captured them had worn a jacket like her half-brother.

She didn’t get a good look at the name on his leather jacket, but she was sure it lacked a Viking.

Oh, no. What if his buddies would come and would hunt them in this grass?

She couldn’t help shaking. Shit. She needed to stay strong.

For Gwenn.

For herself.

And for Ronan.

Ronan

Ronan sat on his couch, watching a rerun of Friends. He’d pleaded his case with Fianna, practically begging her to stay the night in and cuddle. But his girl couldn’t be persuaded and still went on her girls’ night out to the Velvet Club.

His phone rang, and he picked up with a smile, seeing it was his cousin Emmy.

“Are you done—”

Before he could finish his sentence, Emmy screamed into her phone, “Ro! You need to get over here! There are two guys that took Fi and Gwenn!”

“What? Hold on. What’s goin’ on?”

He sat upright on the couch and searched for the keys of his truck.

“Talk to me, Emm. What’s goin’ on? Where are you?”

“V-Velvet Club… Oh my God. I just saw him point a gun at Gwenn! He hit her, Ro. And now she’s going inside the back of the truck. Somebody help me!” Emmy screamed, and she heard bystanders talking to her.

“Emm! Focus! Do you know what kind of van?”
