“Out!” Ronan shouted when the door to the restroom opened. It immediately banged shut again. With his mere presence alone, people often did whatever this big, bad MMA fighter said.

Usually, Fianna was one of the few who didn’t take orders from him. She didn’t know if it was the long row of shit dates, the even longer period without sex, or his familiar aftershave—the scent she’d given him for his sixteenth birthday. But when he brushed her hair behind her ear, she leaned into his touch.

Ronan’s eyes widened for a second in shock that she let him touch her before that damn signature asshole smirk reappeared.

“What do you want?” she said, hating the breathy sound of her voice.

Fresh stitches marred his eyebrow and his lower lip was swollen. He must have come straight over from his fight tonight.

“You know what I want, Princess. And if I’m not mistaken… you want it just as bad.”

He held her hip in his big, calloused hand as he leaned in.

“Every time I close my eyes… I see you… I smell you…”

With his crooked nose from all those years of MMA fighting, he nudged her skin behind her ear. A shiver ran down her spine.

As he smelled her, she gripped the counter behind her while wobbling on her stiletto heels. His tongue caressed her earlobe while his calloused hands grabbed a hold of her bum. It was like no time had passed when he rocked his hard length against her. If this damn man would keep this up, she would turn into a puddle of wanton mess.

The asshole would love nothing more than to make her come and probably throw it back in her face after. Argh! She needed to stop this. She fisted his longer ink-jet hair on top of his head. She wanted to yank his head back, but her traitorous hands pulled him even closer.

His busted lips found hers, coaxing her to open up. She couldn’t hold back a moan when his tongue swirled around hers. His fingers weaved through her hair, dizzying her for a moment as she let herself get lost in his touch.

“Fuck yeah...”

His crude words reminded her she hated Ronan and everything he stood for. When his hands slid up her outer thighs, pushing her dress up, she quickly sidestepped him and fisted her clutch.

“I can’t do this,” she said while bringing the hem of her tight dress down.

“Bullshit. Stop running from me, Red. You know it’s only a matter of time.”

She narrowed her eyes at him. His cockiness about her yielding to him brought her out of her Ronan-induced haze. “Never. You and I are done. Have been for a long time. Let me remind you; you screwed Miranda behind my back.”

The hurt of what happened six years ago washed over her, fueling her anger. As a friend of a friend, his hooking up with Miranda didn’t sit right with Fianna.

Ronan brought a hand through his hair. “You broke it off with me and said to have a good life. We weren’t even together. I never cheated on you!”

She knew her words would bring out his anger. Good. Let him be angry. That made two of them. She needed his anger to get distance between them, anyway.

“It had only been a day. One fucking day and you already slept with her! You may hide behind being on a break, but you broke my heart and I still hate you!” She shoved his chest, but he didn’t even sway an inch.

“Love and hate are two sides of the same coin…” he said.

She raised her chin and righted her shoulders. When she spoke her next words, she held his eyes. “All I know is that I hate you more than that I love you.”

He called out her name when she ran out of the restroom, passing a confused Carlos. With her phone against her ear, she pushed the button for the elevator to go down.

She couldn’t believe she admitted to Ronan that she still loved him.

What in the hell was wrong with her? Staying in Winter Peaks for years had put enough distance between them to cope with running into Ronan thus far.

After one dial tone, her sister Kera picked up the phone. “Hi, sis. Don’t tell me… The urban legend was true, and you found the love of your life at Rumba Rum?”

Fianna snorted around a sob.

Her sister must have heard and said, “What’s wrong? Are you okay?”

“Everything is fine… Speed dating was awful… like expected.”
