Kieran stopped his reply when Emmy slapped his face. “Shut your mouth, you… Neanderthal!”

Teagan gasped, and speed walked over to her sister to diffuse the situation. “Emm. What is going on here?”

“You’re staying here? With him?” Emmy never showed a lot of emotions. Mistake did not nickname as the ‘drill instructor’ her. She handed out orders to grown men who worked in her kitchen at the pub. She’d even made a few of the waitresses cry when they’d messed up her dishes.

The vulnerability and panic in Emmy’s voice made Teagan realize how her sister not only hated Kieran, but that she also didn’t want her sister involved with him in any kind of way. She seemed genuinely hurt by the idea of Teagan spending time with Kieran.

“He lives here with Devlin and their sister, Catriona,” Teagan offered.

“I need to go…” Emmy whispered while staring at Kieran.

Kieran brought a hand through his raven hair and said, “Please stay, Emm. We can talk and—”

“I’m not doing this,” Emmy said. She pushed the duffel bag into Teagan’s arms. “Here. I need to go. Promise me you’ll call Mom? She’s been crying all day.”

Teagan fisted the bag and held it close to her chest. “I will.”

“See you around, Chef,” Kieran said before he turned around and walked up the stairs.

Emmy watched him leave, her feet nailed to the floor.

“Are you sure you’re not staying for a drink? We’ve got a perfect salmon steak with your name on it if you’re into fish?”

Teagan linked her fingers with Devlin’s and gave them a gentle squeeze. She was grateful that Devlin tried to make her sister feel welcome after that train wreck run in with Kieran.

“Maybe some other time,” Emmy said, her voice distant.

“Okay, well, thanks for bringing me my stuff, sis.”

Emmy hugged Teagan out of nowhere and said, “Be careful with your heart around these Walker men, sis. Don’t do as your big sister did and fall for the lines they sprout.”

Devlin clearly overheard Emmy and said, “I don’t know what happened between you and my brother. I’m sorry if he did anything that upset you and I will have a talk with him later.”

Emmy wanted to react, but he quickly added, “However, that was a cheap shot without you even knowing me and knowing the first thing about Teagan and mine’s relationship. I promise you I’ll never hurt your sister.”

Emmy narrowed her eyes right under her shiny brown bangs. “You two are in a relationship?”

Teagan nodded. “Yeah.”

Her sister rubbed her temples. “Since when?”

“Since, eh…” Teagan didn’t have an instant answer for her sister. She glanced up at Devlin, who stood there, staring at her with a boyish grin on his face.

Teagan felt everyone watching her as Nora had joined them, albeit standing to the side, spying on them from the kitchen.

“I don’t have an exact date, okay?” Teagan finally said.

Emmy rolled her eyes. “I’m heading back. See you later, sis.”

“Hey, Emmy,” Devlin said, and Emmy turned around in his driveway.

“What?” she said.

“I’ve been Teagan’s since the night of Errin’s bachelorette.”

Teagan’s heart skipped a beat. She’d been right all along that he’d felt the same as her after that night in the grass field. She tried to hold in her smug smile.

Emmy raised her chin. “Good to know. If you’re anything like your brother, I’ll give it three weeks.”
