The more I was around Gyth, the more I felt safe with him to share and just be me.

“If the test is positive, we will deal with it. And as for your parents, we haven’t spoken about them much but I gather from the bits and pieces that I have heard that I wouldn’t like them much. You’re amazing Summer, and deserve to be treated that way. They should be there for you always, that is what parents are supposed to do.”

Gyth’s mouth was set in a grim line as he finished up the last part of what he said. I wanted to soothe him and not let him worry about two selfish people who didn’t usually fuss over anyone but themselves, and at the same time, his protectiveness for me was sweet.

And then I realized he had saidwe, and once again my lips started moving before my brain caught up and said don’t ask.

“You said we?” My tone was questioning.

“Yeswe, Summer—you and me are in this together.”

“But—“ I got out one word and was cut off.

“Don’t go there, because it doesn’t matter what they say come Monday, or what is already going on.” His face was determined and his voice full of sincerity, as he carried on. “You’re it for me, Sunshine. Have been since I first laid eyes on you. I will wait for however long it takes you to come around to my way of thinking, on you and I, being aus, but I am always going to be here for you.”

My eyes got a little misty, but I was holding the tears at bay. I didn’t want to get weepy, I just wanted to revel in the warm, special feeling floating through my body at Gyth’s words. But I needed to give him something back; I owed him that much.

“I like the sound of thatand I’m open to the idea of exploringustogether,” I nervously said.

“Fucking fabulous to hear, Sunshine.”

Then, wanting to just bask in the whole idea of us, and spend the rest of our time in a happy place, I spoke again.

“Let’s table the parent talk for another day, and also the conversation about my doctor visit, until after the next appointment at least. I just want you to enjoy the rest of my time with you, and for you to know how much I appreciate you going with me today. My very scrumptious bacon maple donut is just icing on the cake.”

Smiling at him like a goon, I shoved the donut in my mouth and took a huge bite. It was a little messy so my tongue darted out to lick my lips. Gyth’s eyes heated as he watched me, and his look made me squirm as goosebumps broke out all over my skin. Then he laughed and gave me a sexy smirk.

The day may not have started off well, but I’d say looking at the man across from me who was hotter than the burning sun, my tea in hand, and the best donut ever shoved in my mouth, made for a pretty decent end to it.

Even if my panties were soaking wet.

Chapter Fifteen

Summer

It was Saturday evening, and also girls’ night.

A few days after my doctor’s visit, I got an evening with the girls. Alley, Jurnee, and I hadn’t had a night like this since the day before Jurnee had been married.

This one was minus Embry though, and the wine too. Jurnee couldn’t have it, and I shouldn’t either. We had told Alley we were fine with her having some, but she wouldn’t hear of it. “All for one, and one for all!”’ she had shouted. I also felt bad Embry wasn’t here because I knew the little angel loved girl time as much as we all did.

Even though we talked at the coffee shop last weekend, we had all agreed to take an evening together like old times since once Jurnee had the baby it would be hard to do for a while. That and I’m sure they wanted to grill me on Gyth and talk more about my appointment. Those were not topics suitable for little ears.

We had promised her she could come for breakfast though. So Braxton planned on bringing her over, and I’m sure staying too if it meant he got food.

I had just ducked into my bedroom to change into my comfy clothes as I heard the door opening and Jurnee calling out that she had arrived. Alley was already in the living room ready to roll, dressed in her baggy black sweats and a t-shirt that was three sizes too big which hung to her knees and read, ‘Can’t Touch This.”

My girl and her shirt collection were in a class of their own.

As I slipped on my soft, grey pajama bottoms with pink and white flowers on them, and my white cami, I couldn’t help but stare at my cell phone on my nightstand. My laser vision was willing the phone to ring or even alert me to a text.

I know I should only be focused on the girls and our night, but lately, I have gotten used to Gyth checking up on me. Before I wandered out with the ladies, I wanted to hear his voice. It soothes me. And it wouldn’t hurt for me to reach out to him first, right?

Making up my mind, I walked over and snagged my phone up in my hand. I’d programmed everyone’s numbers in but could just voice who I wanted to call so if anything should go wrong with me, I would be able to just tell my phone who to reach. So I spoke into the phone.

“Call Mr. Panty Melter.”

I laughed at myself and the crazy names I’d put in my cell for everyone, but this one could be highly embarrassing if Gyth found out. I thought I was safe since if we were together he wouldn’t need to call me, so he wouldn’t hear it call out the name I labeled for him.
