I heard sniffling and looked over at Jurnee.

“Here comes the waterworks,” I said while laughing at the same time.

“Hush it,” Jurnee said as the tears slowly spilled out of her eyes and down her cheeks. “It’s the pregnancy hormones.”

Alley chimed in then. “Bullshit, I can’t believe you're pulling the pregnancy card when you cry like a baby every time we watchE.T.even though you’ve seen it a ton of times.”

“Hey, it’s freaking sad,” Jurnee managed to get out through her clogged, tear-filled throat.

We had pizza earlier as we sat down to watch movies. Then we broke out the popcorn, some red licorice, M & M’s, and the sparkling grape juice that Jurnee had brought with her. It was a good thing we were all in comfy clothes because we had stuffed ourselves like turkeys on Thanksgiving Day.

“I think we can give her a break this time right, Alley?” I said looking over at her.

“Okay, but just this one time,” Alley replied. And with that Jurnee started to shed even more tears.

“This is why I’m never getting pregnant,” Alley commented. But as the words left her lips, her eyes looked sad. I glanced at Jurnee and she was looking at Alley. I could tell she had seen the look that crossed Alley’s face also after she spoke.

I shouldn’t pressure her, but the time had come I decided. “Why not?” I asked Alley, looking back at her.

Alley being Alley I thought she would blow me off, but to my shock, she hadn’t.

“There was a time I thought maybe I’d change my mind. I didn’t have a good role model or think I’d be a good mom, but sometimes someone comes along and changes your way of thinking, you know?” Her eyes had a faraway look as if thinking of that person she spoke about and I couldn’t help myself.

“My brother, is he who could have changed your mind?” I asked softly.

Jurnee and my eyes were both fixated on the hurt, heartbroken look Alley had displayed on her beautiful face. And once again she shocked me with her honesty.

“Yeah, there was a time I would have done anything for Landon. But those days are over,” she claimed.

I wasn’t sure if I wanted to finish out the night at that point with my besties or go beat my brother’s ass. What had he done to her?

Alley didn’t let us carry on, and quickly changed the subject. Jurnee and I let her as we usually did. Tonight was the most we had gotten out of her, and although it may not be much, it was a start.

“So,” Alley started as she looked at me. “This is supposed to be fun, so how about you tell us if you're finally gonna lose the V-Card and let Gyth show you how to ride a horse, and save a cowboy, as some might say?”

“What the hell, Alley!” I shouted.

“Hey,” Alley started in again, “you already told us about his giant dong you saw the weekend he stayed over. You best be figuring out how that sucker is going to fit.”

It was a damn good thing we had hardwood floors, because Jurnee had laughed, and her grape juice sprayed from her mouth like a damn water fountain.

“Oh, you guys think that’s funny do you? What is this, let's pick on Summer evening?” I said, sarcastically. “You two just love having some good laughs at my expense. And dong, really, Alley?” One would think maybe I’d be mad, but hell this subject wasn’t off-limits with my girls or the teasing.

That’s what best friends were all about.

And as the night wore on, the good times kept rolling and I knew I could have never found two better soul sisters.

“You two are the best friends anyone could have but don’t think I’m not getting you back for that shit before the night is over. I promise you that.”

The little shits both just smirked at me.

Chapter Sixteen

Gyth

Shower two,coming right up.

After getting off the phone with Summer I desperately needed a release before I headed to Kace’s for a beer and to shoot the shit. Fuck if I needed to walk into his place sporting a stiffy that could break boards and embarrass myself.
