My head swiveled in her direction. “Stuff a sock in it, Alley.” Before she could say anything else, Gyth spoke next.

“Sunshine, are you going to tell me if those nasty thoughts were about me?”

My head snapped back in his direction as I sputtered to get words out.

“You, you guys are both pains in my ass.” I walked up into Gyth’s personal space and looked up at the man towering over me. I grabbed his hand and pulled him right out the door, as Alley just chuckled.

Once outside, he stopped and pulled me back against his body, my back to his front as he leaned down next to my ear.

“I let you rush me out the door, but don’t think for one second that when I get you in my bed for the first time that will happen.”

My heart thumped, and my pulse raced and I had one other small issue. Pulling out of his hold, I said, “I’ll be right back.”

As I ran past Alley, she stared at me like I’d lost my mind, but I didn’t stop. And hell if I was explaining shit to her. Running to my room I took care of business and then was right back out the door.

As I closed the distance between Gyth and me, he said in a sexy whisper, “Do you feel better now that you have dry panties?”

My mouth dropped open in shock. How the hell did he always know exactly what I was thinking or was happening?

“You’re incorrigible,” I said and headed for his truck without waiting.

His laughter followed behind me as he kept pace, remaining right on my tail. I felt his eyes on me and thought that I’d need another pair of undies before long.

Good thing I shoved another pair in my purse. I had to be prepared when Gyth was nearby.

What in the world were we doing here?

We’d been driving for about an hour before we pulled up to a two-story, yellow farmhouse that was surrounded by a mass of land, and sat off a country dirt road.

I hadn’t asked where we were going and as we talked, I’d lost track of time until we’d arrived. Gyth may make me nervous because of the sexual attraction that was always there between us and that was completely out of my element, but he was also my safe place, and having him around to chat with brought me peace.

It was a tug of war with my emotions, but in a good way.

When we stopped next to a big red barn, my curiosity piqued. Gyth quickly jumped out and jogged around to my side to help me out of the truck. I knew he liked to do it and it was a date, so I’d stayed put just for him. Kinda like an obedient and well-trained dog.

It wasn’t going to happen all the time though, so he better not get too used to it.

As we rounded the front of the truck, he grabbed my hand and together we headed toward the house just as a herd of dogs came running, barking and wagging their tails in pure excitement. Before they got to us, a loud whistle pierced the cool air surrounding us.

I was stunned when all the dogs stopped in their tracks and turned around to run back to the house. Looking up, I saw a woman descending the porch steps. The way she commanded the dogs gently, but with authority, was amazing. A huge grin split her face as they approached, all their tails going a hundred miles an hour. Her love for them and vice versa was evident.

After they all made it back to her, she had them sitting by her side calmly in no time. Gyth softly tugged on my hand as he pulled me in the lady’s direction. Confused as I was, anticipation raced through my body.

The bright smile on the woman’s face immediately put me at ease and I smiled back. When we reached her, Gyth let go of my hand and shook hers.

“Hey Gretchen, how are you?” he asked, also smiling at her.

“I’m great, it’s good to see you, Gyth. Now introduce me to this beautiful lady of yours I’ve already heard so much about.” She released his hand and reached for mine.”

“Gretchen, this is my girl Summer,” he replied as the woman’s strong grip clasped mine. It was obvious she worked with her hands, but her touch was still soothing.

I liked the woman immediately but was puzzled how Gyth knew her.

Seconds after dropping my hand from hers, and before anyone could say anything else, my gaze landed on another dog coming out of the house.

My breath hitched at the sight.

Standing there was the most captivating dog I’d ever seen.
