Did Gretchen just say Gyth had love in his voice?

About me?

Could he really feel that strongly?

“We decided to bring you out and see what happened without pushing and it took all of two minutes for you and Ash to bond. I’d say that everything's meant to be.”

Another little bit of panic took hold when I realized I didn’t live alone.

“Oh my God, what about Alley?”

“It’s okay, Sunshine, I already talked to her and she is cool with it.”

“You thought of everything. And you're amazing, thank you so much.” Not being able to contain myself I jumped up and threw my arms around Gyth’s fit waist, hugging him tightly.

He pulled me as close as possible, inhaled deep, and breathed me in. It was something I caught him doing often. Then he gave me a little squeeze that warmed my heart. “Anything for you, Sunshine,” he said in his smooth southern drawl, sending shivers through my body.

We finished talking with Gretchen and she explained how to be a registered ESA dog. I would need a note from my doctor to make it official, but we didn’t think that would be an issue.

Then we promised to visit often, said our goodbyes, and the next thing I knew I was back in Gyth’s truck with all Ash’s stuff and her in the middle of us, a beaming smile on my face.

I didn’t know where we were off to next, but I didn’t care because I had my man and my dog with me and that’s what mattered.

Chapter Twenty-Three

Summer

Who didn’t loveslobbery doggy kisses?

I’d gotten hundreds of them since we'd left Gretchen’s place, but I wasn’t complaining. Ash had even dished out a few to Gyth too. I laughed so hard the first time she swiped her tongue across his cheek leaving a trail of slobber in its wake.

The big Ox, as Alley had called him earlier, which was hilarious, hadn’t even made a stink about it and just chuckled.

Gyth had picked us up a late lunch at a cafe and drove us to a hillside lookout point that had the most stunning view. He’d backed the truck up, dropped the tailgate, and spread a blanket out in the bed of his truck.

There was a chill in the air, but the man that sat next to me gave off some serious body heat, and being around him always had me feeling as though I may combust from the hot intensity that swept through me when he was close by.

The sky was a burst of blue, pink, and purple as the sun hid behind a cluster of clouds. We sat and ate while taking it all in. Ash laid down beside me, her head on my thigh and the closeness made me feel relaxed. It was a feeling that didn’t come over me often lately.

It had been a remarkable, but also an emotional day and my body was tiring out as the evening approached. I let out a little sigh and Ash nuzzled even closer, automatically reacting to me and how I felt.

But she wasn’t the only one.

“Are you tired, beautiful? I can take you home whenever you're ready.” Gyth always seemed to be just as in tune with me as the trained dog that leaned up against me was.

“I’m feeling a little worn out, but I’m not ready yet. I want to spend more time here enjoying this mesmerizing view, with my sweet girl, and you.”

Smiling, Gyth seemed pleased with my response. Then jumping off the tailgate, he told me to hold on a minute as he ran to grab something from inside the truck. When he came back, he was holding his guitar.

I might as well have gotten those extra panties ready I’d packed in my purse because as soon as he started singing, there was no stopping the reaction it caused.

Jumping back up on the tailgate, he fiddled with the strings a bit and then started strumming. At first he only played the chords and the music swept through the breeze surrounding us, then the smooth baritone of words came majestically from Gyth’s mouth and I sunk deep into his musical world.

I would gladly listen to him sing for the rest of my life.

He looked into my eyes as the lyrics to10,000 Hoursby Dan + Shayfloated from his lips and I had no doubt by the look in his gaze that he was singing to me personally. It was beyond beautiful and my heart melted on the spot.

Not able to control myself, I leaned in and softly pressed my lips to his, stopping the words for a moment, but the birds chirping, frogs croaking, and soft wind swirling around us, created their own song as I got lost in the kiss.
