“Now, now,” Braxton cut in, obviously worried there would be animosity between his buddies or even come to blows. “Landon is just as protective of Summer as I am my own sister, so he didn’t mean anything by that. And Landon, Gyth—“

Cutting Braxton off by holding up a hand to stop him from continuing, because I thought Landon needed to hear the next part from me, I said, “I will never hurt your sister. She is the best person I know. Sorry guys.” I looked at Braxton, then Kace. “Summer is my world.” Finished, I brought my eyes back to Landon.

Nodding his head, the look on his face softened, as he spoke again. “I believe you. Just don’t forget it. Now let's see what we can find for He-Man here in the form of a tux and hope he doesn’t blow all the buttons off as we do.

What a shit show. I wasn’t built or made for a tux, inside or out. But if it made Summer happy, I was all in and willing to do just about anything. As we got the evening attire squared away, I thought about how the evening might just go down and also how much I disliked everything I heard and knew about Summer’s parents. Even though I didn’t know them personally.

Loving Summer and knowing what a phenomenal woman she was, without any help from her parents, and despite how they made her feel or treated her, I realized it was already personal. And I still didn’t understand why her brother stayed with the family business and dealt with his parents when he didn’t seem all that thrilled with any of it.

Happy that my girl separated herself from the unhappiness as much as she did, I would support her however she needed and as much as she wanted me to when a situation should arise like this one coming up.

Feeling a hand slap my back, I turned to look at Braxton. “Now that we got that done and you are all set with your tux, what do you say we go get some grub and a beer?” he asked me.

“Oh, that is why you came. You knew you would get to eat and drink after,” I said, ribbing him.

“Hell yes, that is why we are here with you,” Kace chimed in. “Now let's get going, I’m starving.

Rolling my eyes as my woman would, I said to him, “You are always starving.”

“Then don’t make a hungry boy wait, “he said to me and then turned to Landon. “You in? Want to go grab some food with us?”

“Sounds good,” Landon said.

And we all headed out.

Summer

“Damn girlfriend, you look hot.”

Alley whistled as she said it and Jurnee cracked up laughing. We were at one of my favorite boutiques downtown and I had been trying on dress after dress. It seemed like a twister had swept in and picked up every dress in the store and threw them all over the large dressing room.

“She is right,” Jurnee added. “You are going to knock Gyth’s socks off in that dress.”

Guess after slipping on everything in the store, we had finally found the perfect one since we all three were in agreement. Running my hands down my sides, taking in the feel of the silk fabric next to my skin, and glancing in the mirror once more, I hoped my man would like what he saw when I wore it for him.

Because that was the truth. This dress was for him. Not my parents, not for their event, but for Gyth. I loved getting dressed up, buying a new outfit, but doing it for my guy made it even more exciting.

“We are going to lunch, right?” Jurnee asked. I knew she wouldn’t last long, leaving Embry and Hudson with her parents, but it was nice that the three of us could be out for a few hours together. Even if she’d called them twenty times in the last hour. I would be the same way if they were my kids, or if I had some of my own.

“You aren’t pregnant again are you?” Alley asked Jurnee, joking as she bumped her shoulder.

“Bite your tongue, I can’t even have sex yet,” Jurnee said, groaning. “It is killing me because Braxton is a dream in bed. But I think we will wait a while to have another child. That doesn’t mean I can’t be hungry and spend some time with my best friends though.”

“Wait,” Alley started. “You guys want to have another baby?” she asked Jurnee, curiously.

“Honestly, we aren’t sure yet. We might adopt again,” Jurnee told us, smiling brightly.

Braxton was perfect for my friend. They understood one another and wanted the same things out of life. It was crazy to think they knew each other growing up and despite the age difference and then him being gone in the military, that when he came back, they came together in a heartbeat.

“That’s awesome,” I told her, giving her a mega smile. “Now let's go eat before you have to get back to those beautiful kids of yours. How about the pub down the street, they have some great food and it is close by?”

Sounds good, they each said in unison and we headed out, my bag on my arm holding not only my fabulous dress but some brand new sexy lingerie too.

Gyth

My breath got caught in my throat when the door opened and my lady walked in.

How did I get so damn lucky?
